OK it is for my SIL who is 30 and by Christmas will be heavily pregnant with her second child. Which mag would you recommend and where do you buy from?

delicious is excellent- I gave 2 subscriptions of it as presents last year, both were very well received. It might give her ideas, she might be restricted because she doesn't know how to cook stuff.

DottydotsofBloodOnTheFloor · 23/10/2007 21:51

Well, I got a subscription once where I could choose from 4 - 5 different magazines and I chose Heat - because it's horrendously trashy and I could never justify spending any of my own money on it.

Loved it - was one of the best presents I've ever had and I was very sad when the 6 months were up!

So, you could either get her a package where she's got a choice, or take a risk on her enjoying something trashy rather than something boring like Good Housekeeping!

pammo · 24/10/2007 23:29

Well, I've got Marie Claire from my MIL 3 yrs on the trot and it's very much appreciated. I also like Red & Eve too - look out for the offers for an annual subscription for the later 2 mags for £12 and a freebie gift thrown in.

time4tea · 03/11/2007 14:39

does your SIL have any hobbies? I get Delicious. magazine, great for food, but if she likes gardening BBC Gardens Illustrated is excellent

ladygrinningsparklers · 03/11/2007 21:23

If you are not sure I would get Eve (or maybe Red) as it doesn't carry any connotations of middle age, trashiness etc. Or one where she gets to choose from a few titles.

Well I have been enjoying Easy Living (after a nudge form a certain MNer who was shocked at my GH habit).

It's a good magazine.

But I remain faithful to GH.

MaryBS · 03/11/2007 21:49

I took out a subscription to Eve, when I went to the food and drink show last year. I got it for half-price plus a free gift pack of £35 worth of bodyshop products. I've not seen it as good as that since...

gybegirl · 03/11/2007 21:49

Another vote for Red. It's got some stuff in it for everyone. But definietly google for special offers. Don't pay the full price, or if you do make sure there are lots of freebies thrown in (bathroom cabinet is full of posh face cream as we speak - I don't use it but it's there!)

paulaplumpbottom · 03/11/2007 21:52

Real Simple. Its an American magazine but you can buy it at alot of newsagents. Its great for ideas on how to make life easy and it is beautifully written and photographed

mellyonion · 05/11/2007 11:12

not sure if i'm too late....my MIL got me SHE mag on subscription last year...i was thrilled at the gift, but to be honest, i'm a 32 yo mum of 3 and i feel so oooolllllllldddddddd reading it, plus not being a career woman, baker, domestic goddess (it ALWAYS has an article on storage solutions!!),fshion fiend etc, i find it not really that relavant to my life iykwim.

i love eve mag......thats my vote! x

Budabang · 05/11/2007 12:36

I would say Eve. I get that and love it although am older (43). I also get Good Houskeeping but have gone off that recently.

yummybunnymummy · 05/11/2007 18:14

My mum and sister (50 & 26) both have Prima subscriptions which they both adore. I like looking through it but probably prefer GH, but is a lot cheaper, if you look around £16-18 for the year.
