What Christmas things can I bake with 8 & 3 year old?

Does anyone have any suggestions of simple Christmas themed things to bake/make with DS8 & DD3 over the next few days? I'm thinking biscuits, fairy cakes etc.
I know Google is full of suggestions but just wondering if you have any tried and tested go-to ideas. Thanks.

Mary Berry fork biscuits are easy peasy and you can add all sorts of flavours to them. Just google them. Kids will enjoy making them

I made gingerbread with mine last week and it was very easy and they came out well.

It was this recipe and we watched a bake-along nativity video.

Mince pies are pretty simple, partic if you use ready made pastry and a jar of mincemeat. Sausage rolls too, using ready made pastry again and the inside of some sausages.

These are really easy and tasty too! Bit messy though

7 and 3 year olds and I did Nigellas Yule log for a Christmas change!!!!!! Baked in our biggest oven tray as we have no Swiss roll tin.

We made some stained glass window biscuits that were lovely and Christmas themed. You could do Christmas cupcakes or an actual Christmas cake if they like fruit cake.

The Nutella pastry Christmas tree is pretty easy (and yummy).

Rodent01 · 20/12/2020 13:54

@Hairydilemma yes! We did that last year, I’d forgotten - was amazing!

Hairydilemma · 20/12/2020 13:58

It’s lovely isn’t it?! And I’d have thought one of those things that still tastes good if made by children and not quite as ... visually perfect ... as it should be

Gingerbread men

Another vote for mince pies here, mine love rolling out the pastry, cutting out circles and spooning in the mincemeat. If you have shaped biscuit cutters you can put a top on rather than a lid.

Making gingerbread biscuits and decorating them with the tubes of ready icing you can get in the supermarket and some sprinkles works well too.

Gingerbread men

Cranberry and white chocolate cookies mmmm

Trifle?

Yule log

Mince pies

Cheesecake?

Bigoldmachine · 20/12/2020 14:22

Ooh ooh cinnamon swirls

I’m hungry now

Gingerbread men! Did them with my 3 year old yesterday. The dough was quite solid and not sticky so it was easy enough for her to use with the cutters.

You can make flour clay, 1 cup water, 1 cup salt, 2 cups flour.
Make sure it's rolled thinly , you can make tags and coasters, you blast it 10seconds a time in the microwave, let it go cold and repeat till dry, then paint.
It's great to do while the cakes cook.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/12/2020 16:28

Peppermint creams, jam tarts, cheese straws, gingerbread cottage.

Justajot · 20/12/2020 16:59

We like to make gingerbread men, then make fondant or royal icing in different colours and pipe them little outfits. You can buy the icing in boxes of powder and put the colours in icing bags with clips to hold them shut.

I made 'gingerbread' houses with my 3 year old. Packet of Malted milk biscuits, icing to stick them in a kind of tent shape with one on the base and then loads of sweets to glue on with icing. Super quick and easy to do and he's really proud of them

Thank you. Some great suggestions.

We are going with choc chip cookies and the Nutella pastry Christmas.. dc 4&2

FatGirlShrinking · 21/12/2020 09:47

Cheese straws - use ready roll puff pastry, roll 2 rectangles, spread one with tomato ketchup thinly and sprinkle liberally with cheese, put the other rectangle on top and lightly roll to press together. Chop into strips, give them a little twist, brush with milk and sprinkle more cheese then bake till golden brown.

Filo or puff pastry parcels/moneybags - DD is 6 and had a ball making these the other day using inventive combos of filling like a spoon of Nutella with a marshmallow in the middle, or jam and peanut butter, mincemeat.... bake till golden brown then when cooled sprinkle with icing sugar.
