Meltdowns before Xmas?!

DS is nearly 4 and this year is the first year he is really aware and starting to understand Christmas so he is super excited.
Generally he has been good and well behaved but this last week or so he has had a few meltdowns that he wouldn't usually have over the things that have caused them.
I think Christmas is a hard time for kids in the weeks leading upto it, everywhere we look it's all about Christmas and songs films, elf's on the shelf, and Santa etc and I've lost count with the amount of times my DD has asked how many days it is until Christmas 😂
I'm trying to remind myself to be a big more understanding these weeks before Christmas and realise he may be overwhelmed, excited etc.
Has anyone found the run up harder with kids, have they had meltdowns and how are you dealing with them?
Thanks :)

My son is 7 now and this year has been fine but when he was younger, there were often 'meltdowns' in the run up.

I think, as you say, there is so much build up and often things like parties at pre school/school that they get over tired and excited.

I said to DH last week that I don't feel as tired as I usually do at this time of year, which I think is because this is the first year we haven't had something on every weekend from Nov to Christmas!

I'm babysitting (providing child care) my 3 year old DGS and to be honest he's been positively angelic, unlike most other times we have him. He helped me wrap up presents this afternoon, we were going to look at the Christmas lights but it's chucking it down

They’re out of routine and kids like routine. It’s a long time to be excited too!
