Outside Christmas lights in your area?

Please tell me what outside light themes are popular in your area and where do you live?

South London

  • Definitely many more multi coloured outside lights
  • Lots of one colour lights including turquoise, pink and bright green as well as the usual silver and gold
  • Lots of house wreaths (very large wreaths with lights on the outside of houses, rather than just on the front door)
  • Lots of lights and / or greenery around the front door
  • Large baubles as well as lights on front garden trees

Fit-inducing, frantically flashing, bright neon blue here for some reason.

Also South London here, the fashion seems to be enormous decorations. One Santa tied up to the bin to stop him floating away Grin

A few houses are covered in lit figurines, I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but 2D lit images. A couple of houses look like the owners couldn't decide which light to pick so they bought all of them?

Lots of projections on to the house as well, usually snowflakes although there are also some Santas.

People have gone down the "more is more" route this year.

I’m in the south west, there’s a lot of rain deer lights and lots of twinkly lights placed in large trees in people’s front gardens, it’s mostly tasteful other than the house up the road that looks like the house from lampoons Christmas (it’s covered in lights).

The sudden increase in lights round my area has been a rare bit of cheer for me.
Anna Mathur on Instagram showed a local street where they'd all done a very tasteful, coordinated job with soft glowing lights on their boundaries. But I love a bit of a 'fuck it!' naff-fest.

Lots of little white lights around windows, eaves, trees etc. White light up reindeer. Doors with ribbons and bows to look like presents. Candy canes along the path. I'm in Bedfordshire.

Midlands. Cant comment too much on others lights, as I don't really go out after dark, but for the first time ever we have done outside lights are they are terrible multi coloured mess. Along with some neon Santa's, snowmen etc... and we have a projector playing different Xmas themes in our window. Our tree is also multi coloured lights which I have never done before...
And is 9ft compared to the usual 6ft.

We have fully embraced being naff and OTT this year and to be honest, I like it more than the previous co-ordinated look we had!

North West.
Warm white/ multi coloured or aqua lights (not police siren blue) that twinkle rather than flash.
Garlands over front doors.
Giant inflatable Santa’s/ snowmen.
2D led rope lights on walls that give the impression of movement (angel wings flapping up and down/ reindeer legs moving/ shooting stars/ a snowman that juggles snowballs)
Bows and ribbons on front doors.

South west and so many have gone all out with lights. I love it so much. My road is a cul de sac with 18 houses so it’s a bit dark as no one comes down here to see them but there are some outstanding ones. I’m impressed and feel very under skilled!

South West.

As always, lots of icicles. Some white, quite lot in in flashing blue. Where people have trees or hedges at the front there are lots of multicoloured lights covering them.

White reindeer seem popular here too this year.

As always there are some houses which have gone all out, absolutely covered in mutli coloured lights, presents, santa, you name it they have it. Several of them put out collection buckets and raise money for local charities, however at least a few have been asked to stop by the Police now as the were getting big crowds. It's keeping the local Facebook group busy!

Near Bristol, no visible trends here, just lots of lights in many colours, some flash some don't. I was going to take DGS out to see them tonight but it's peeing down.

Ohdoleavemealone · 20/12/2020 19:14

Warm golden lights have been popular, as have candy canes and the urge to "super size" the displays.

We have just been for a walk and it is pretty beautiful round here.

happytobemrsg · 20/12/2020 19:15

I’m in the SE & people have really gone to town here. Nothing matches, lights are multi coloured & it’s super cheesy. Love it

hiredandsqueak · 20/12/2020 20:06

Midlands I live opposite a bloody eyesore. Not sure there is a theme other than how much flashing crap can you affix to one house. I make sure all the blinds on the front of the house are closed before dark to avoid the migraine inducing flashes.

LittleRa · 20/12/2020 20:13

North East, I’ve noticed a lot of the light up candy canes along people’s paths/gardens, like these (photo attached).
