I need ideas please. I want to get a present fir my DF's son.

He's 11 but has Down's Syndrome. My DF said recently that she thinks he is functioning at around a 5 yo level.

Does any have any ideas please?

I would give him a book token so that he could choose his own book but the family are happy going to the shops in the Pandemic.

How about a disco light? Or a light projector?

FAQs · 18/12/2020 19:10

What is he interested in?

AuntieDolly · 18/12/2020 19:11

1kg of pick n mix delivered

Do you know any more information like interests...art, sport, tv shows etc?

Slime, cool water bottle, sweets, decorate your own gingerbread house or baking presents, Lego etc are always winners

WellTidy · 18/12/2020 19:13

Some play doh. Just different colour pots - no theme.

A massive rainbow of felt pens - as big a set as £10 will buy you.

A toy microphone to sing into - I have no idea how much these are though.

A disco light.

Something with the child’s name on it, bonus points of it is an unusual name.

I have a DS with ASD who functions at about that level. He would love all of these.

I haven't seen him much this year but understand that he likes dinosaurs and they recently had a Pug, whom he adores.

He does go swimming but they're not really a sporty family.

Paint your own money box or similar. I recommend Hobbycraft if you have one nearby.

christmasclauscookies · 18/12/2020 19:18

My DS loved his name put on a Starbucks cup. (I got it thru amazon).

If he loves pugs, a pug soft toy?

If he does some online games there are amazing themed PJs and tshirts.

Slime. Flying tiger sometimes sell 'make your own slime' kits.

JingleJohnsJulie · 19/12/2020 08:50

PlusPlus. Just looked up what that means and unfortunately the only thing that seems to be on my budget is some Lego type baseboards.

Slime is a good idea although there's no Flying Tiger within about 50 miles of us

A visual book about dinosaurs or dogs aimed at slightly younger kids maybe [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Encyclopedia-Very-Important-Dinosaurs-Everything/dp/0241316170/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=dinosaur+book+for+kids&qid=1608374212&sr=8-6 this one]] or this one with a chocolate Santa.

Every child is different of course but children with Down Syndrome are often pretty good readers.

Murmurur · 19/12/2020 10:50

Oops sorry for the hyperlink fail

stridesy · 19/12/2020 11:40

Voucher for trampoline park and big bar of chocolate. (Most places have sen sessions)
Guiness book of records
Rocket launcher
Hexbugs (might be slightly over budget)
Jenga

you can get Elmers slime kits on amazon for £10 to £15 and they're really good. glue, activating fluid and glitter in some, the slime it makes us pretty decent and lasts well, and they're not too messy or tricky to make

Boymumzy · 20/12/2020 02:00

Amazon - Elmers make your own frosty slime kit £9.98

DS has this for Christmas and I know DD (5) is going to be very jealous - www.nhmshop.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/1146/s/dinosaur-torch-and-projector/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIypGHv-3b7QIVWO3tCh22UwK5EAQYAiABEgL2F_D_BwE

DD also loves the ‘Look Inside’ books. She has the body one and is getting the space one for Christmas.
