We tend to have ours at 1pm, and even though it's at lunch time, we call it Christmas Dinner.

Usually about 4pm. It works for us usually although goodness knows how this year will go but usually at church by 9am because we usually are sidesmen on Christmas morning. So first thing it's coffee and a biscuit and the dc used to start their selection boxes.

Back for 11ish to smoked salmon triangles and bubbly with presents. Turkey gets slammed in at 12ish. We will go out for a walk (used to be the dc on their new scooters but they are grown up now). Back at 2/2.30 and I whack in the roasties and the veg and trimmings.

Why waste daylight. We only ever need chocolates in the evening - perhaps a satsuma Smile

I always aim for four and I'm usually ready about 5:30! Grin

YakkityYakYakYak · 17/12/2020 21:56

My family have always done it at lunchtime (so 12pm/1pm ish), have had Christmas with PILs the last few years and they don’t eat until 5pm. It just feels all wrong, and I’m always starving by then!

SpacePug · 17/12/2020 22:34

Around 1/2pm. Breakfast is usually croissants and biscuits. Buffet on the evening of party food and dippy bits

GreekOddess · 17/12/2020 22:39

We have ours between 4pm to 5pm. We have a substantial breakfast so aren't hungry until then. We also like to wait until it's dark outside so we can eat by candlelight. We ate earlier when the children were younger.

Moonandstars25 · 17/12/2020 22:51

Last few years we had it around 3. This year we are moving it to 5 as that is our normal dinner time as we try to eat with our 1 year old.

Hohomerryxmas · 17/12/2020 22:55

1-2pm. Plenty of time afterwards to have for a power nap before we start on the board games and alcohol.

Holothane · 17/12/2020 22:56

In the evening we’re used to that.

BabyGirlNumber2 · 17/12/2020 23:07

I don’t mind what time we eat but my pet hate at Christmas (when you are being kindly hosted by someone else) is when breakfast is served at normal time of 8ish and then nothing else is offered until Xmas dinner at 3/4/5pm. I don’t mind if you’re eating at 1 then there’s no need for snacks etc in between but some people have in their heads that there should be a huge gap between breakfast and Xmas dinner and if you eat ANYTHING then you will ‘spoil’ your meal. You’re at someone else’s house so can’t just help yourself to snacks. Instead I’m usually so hungry that I’ve almost gone past it and don’t really enjoy dinner when it’s finally served!

BabyGirlNumber2 · 17/12/2020 23:08

@GreekOddess this is exactly what I mean! How substantial is your breakfast that you don’t need to eat for 8-9+ hours?! Or do you mean that you don’t eat breakfast until 10am so it’s not really that long?

NataliaOsipova · 17/12/2020 23:10

6ish usually. I don’t like eating a big meal in the middle of the day. Usually do some party nibbles at lunchtime so it’s respectable to have a drink....!

amusedtodeath1 · 17/12/2020 23:19

All day really. Pastry, Buck Fizz, Coffe for breakfast, then starters at about 12, Mains about 3, Dessert about 6 and then cheeseboard about 9ish. Day long festive feasting.Xmas Grin

GreekOddess · 17/12/2020 23:49

@BabyGirlNumber2 breakfast is around 9 am and is scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, pannetone and champagne. None of us ever eat lunch though. During the week we have breakfast at 7.30 then dinner at around 8pm.

Deelish75 · 17/12/2020 23:51

We have a light breakfast of cereal, pastries and fruit. 12.30-1pm. We just have main course and pudding/dessert and usually finished by 2.30. DC will have pizza at about 6. We’ll have cheese and crackers a bit later.

SendHelp30 · 17/12/2020 23:53

Around 3pm but we have brunch at 10.30-11 which keeps us going for a while.

ChristmasCookies · 17/12/2020 23:56

Between 2-3

This year i wont be with my family

So very different
Will prob have it about 5 osh

brookiemegs · 18/12/2020 00:17

When its ready! Am vaguely aiming for 3/4
We have a late breakfast and then snack in evening.

IdblowJonSnow · 18/12/2020 00:23

About 1 30 because we get up pretty late.

ChanklyBore · 18/12/2020 00:25

4pm roughly

We don’t have breakfast or lunch on Christmas Day. There is food if people want to get some, I won’t stop them, but we don’t.serve meals until the big dinner. Same as every Sunday dinner through the year, it’s how I was brought up to do high days and holidays - everyone saves is up until the main meal and the main meal lasts 2-4 hours into the evening. It’s been the same throughout my childhood and my DCs childhood - sundays and feast days means one long and indulgent meal rather than 2/3 as weekdays and normal days

Glitteryone · 18/12/2020 00:25

Around 1pm

We’ll then have turkey & stuffing sandwiches and nibbles in the evening when watching the Christmas soaps - absolutely my favourite bit of the whole day ❤️

Seasidemumma77 · 18/12/2020 00:31

It changes as my family changes. When the children were much younger we had breakfast, lunch and tea at same time as normal, now they're teenagers we eat lunch later and they don't all both with breakfast and or tea.

winterbabythistime · 18/12/2020 06:52

4pm

Bin85 · 18/12/2020 06:54

1 30 to 2pm

wendz86 · 18/12/2020 06:59

Normally about 1pm but prob be about 2/3 this year as don’t get kids back till late morning from their dad and then need to travel to my parents .

gotyerhat · 18/12/2020 07:08

DH's family eat at 12. Then there's no more food. That's it. Unbelievable. In my family we eat about 3 then have leftovers and picky things for a light dinner about 7.
