Early risers?

I have a 2 year old who regularly wakes up at 5:30(often waking his sister in the process). We normally equally split morning get ups but I'm not sure what to do on Christmas. They both have stockings in their rooms which they obviously will want to open straight away. Then I can't take them downstairs as they will see all the presents and even trying to entertain them upstairs will be pointless. Should we make everyone get up at 5:30 and be tired all day or does anyone have any amazing ways to deal with this???

We leave stockings downstairs in the hall. At the crack of dawn we pop down to see if Santa has been, make tea and retreat to bed for slow opening of stockings. Tidy up, breakfast and then present opening. We can manage this as we have a separate kitchen and loving room. It wouldn't be possible if they could see the gifts.

At 2 years old all of mine were very slow to open gifts as they wanted to play with each one. I'd embrace the early start and take the day as it comes. You and your partner could tag team snooze later in the day.

Not sure a snooze will be possible as we are off to my parents. I would love a post Christmas dinner nap though.

Thankfully our 2 year old doesn't wake too early (usually 6/7am) but we've last-minute decided to do him a stocking to see if it helps slow down our morning.

Our plan is to bring him into bed with us, let him open his stocking and we'll put a Christmas film on the TV (we recently put one in our bedroom). It gives DH and I a chance to wake up and drink our coffee, and we plan to put a mini "breakfast" in DS's stocking - most likely a satsuma, chocolate brioche and little carton of juice. Although we'd still be awake it should buy us an extra hour lounging in bed which I think will help.

We leave stockings at the end of our bed for the kids - just worked better for us! We also wrap across the door to the living room so there is no peeking or sneaking in before we are ready - it effectively seals off the room until it’s an appropriate hour. But ultimately as long as it’s not before 5am we get up, do stockings in our bed and then just embrace being tired as part of Christmas Day Grin

We just all get up on xmas day. So if it was my turn to get up xmas eve, DH would get up early on boxing day.

When DC were little everyone got up. Someone gets a long lie on Christmas Eve, the other Boxing Day.

Let them get up it's the excitement of xmas to be up at ridiculous o'clock with dc opening presents.
My dc are 10, 16 and 17 and will still wake me at 6am

DD is a very early riser think 4am. When she was small she used to come into our bedroom and open her stocking. When she got older she'd open her stocking and go back to sleep until about 6. One memorable year we crawled into bed at 2am having finished the wrapping, I tell myself that I won't leave until Christmas Eve every year but I still do, only to be women up at 4am. That's why I crash out later in the day.

We don't have a tv in our room although i do like that idea. Thanks for the ideas. I imagine we will end up getting up together.
