Does this sound about right for a 2yo?

This year is the first year that my 2yo has really understood the concept of Christmas and opening presents. I don't want to go overboard and for him to be overwhelmed, but at the same time I'm really excited for him!

This is what he's got...

  • Wooden toy kitchen
  • Wooden train track
  • A Woody toy and a Buzz toy
  • A seaplane toy for the bath
  • A Little People pirate ship

Plus a stocking with bits and pieces in - bubble wand, a couple of small animal figures, bouncy ball, stickers, felt tips and a colouring book, chocolate coins, a little Peppa pig mug.

He'll also get some bits from a few different family members. As we won't be seeing them on Christmas Day I was thinking I could spread these out a bit over the whole Christmas/New Year period if needed.

It's all quite toy heavy at the moment so I was thinking of getting him a couple of books and maybe a little jigsaw puzzle as well, but is that going to be too much?

He's my first so I don't have much to compare it to. What have other people got their two year olds?

That sounds great OP! - You could maybe open one of the books on xmas eve to read together before bed.

I remember when mine were little we'd have to spread the presents right up into the new year as they'd get bombarded with presents from relatives.

Oh that's a good idea about doing a book on Christmas Eve!

Yes thats a what I'm afraid of! I've steered relatives towards presents that will fit with what we've already got him - toy food/pots and pans for the kitchen, Thomas trains for the train set, clothes with his favourite characters on etc - but I know they'll also want to spoilt him!

Sounds perfect but yes, I always give DS books as a gift at Christmas as I want him to value them as much as other things!

My youngest is 2.5. She’s my third child so we already have some of the big ticket items. She’s getting...
Balance bike
Melissa and Doug pet grooming set
Sylvanian Family nursery (her sister is 8 and they really love playing with these together so we seem to have bypassed bye Happyland stage!)
Magic colouring set
Tutu
Selection of books

She’s also getting a teepee, wooden puzzle and clothes from family.

Stocking
Cubitube of dinosaur figures
Spinning top
Fuzzy face magnet game
Chunky crayons
Christmas art stamps
Bubble bath
Chocolate Santa
Sylvanian family figure
Hair clips
Paw Patrol Skye cuddly toy
Mr Men Christmas book

I sort of went roughly by the following:

Something active/outdoorsey
Something to read
Something creative
Something for role play
Something to build/construct
Something to cuddle
A game or puzzle

Obviously as they get older and express their interests more, some types of items might get removed. They might also get more than one thing in a present type, it was just about making Christmas stimulating and giving a variety of different types of toys.

I'd also do small stocking things and maybe clothes/pyjamas and treat foods etc too.

It sounds to me like you have a great selection OP.
