What time do you eat your Christmas dinner?

ivykaty44 · 12/12/2020 23:59

We aim to eat about 3:30m
Breakfast is around 10:30
Never usually have a third meal, perhaps Chrismas pudding and nibbles in the evening

What time do others like to eat?

We have friends who eat on Christmas Eve evening and then snack on Xmas day. That way they say they can relax and have guests round on Christmas Eve that would otherwise be busy elsewhere

Around 5. Makes for a relatively relaxed day (esp. for whoever’s cooking) after a late-ish brunch, and plenty of time for a walk before it gets dark. Nothing needed after the dinner, but plenty to pick at if anyone wants it.
Any small Gdcs will have breakfast and something simple for lunch at their usual times.

LouiseTrees · 13/12/2020 00:39

We do similar to you but an earlier breakfast

GlitterBiatch · 13/12/2020 00:41

We don’t really do breakfast - maybe grab toast if anyone is hungry
Then we eat the main meal at around 3pm
And then just snacks and leftovers in the evening (also snacks are available through out the day obviously if anyone wants anything)

PepsiArcade · 13/12/2020 00:50

We usually have breakfast at 9/9.30ish, a mini buffet of cheese/meats/crackers at 1ish and Christmas dinner at 6/7ish. I grew up having Christmas dinner at normal dinner time in the evening and didn’t realise till adulthood that most people have it in the afternoon!

ikltownofboothlehem · 13/12/2020 00:54

About 3ish. Although we're eating at home this year so might be a bit earlier.

mrsmacmc · 13/12/2020 00:56

4/4:30 for dinner and we usually have brunch around 11 of hot rolls

Pipandmum · 13/12/2020 00:58

5-5.30. Brunch about 10.

Rachellow · 13/12/2020 01:27

We will have 2 christmas dinners on christmas eve and day which is a tradition that comes and goes but my German sister in law is coming so we have to this year! On the 24th we'll have fish at about 8pm. On the 25th we'll have breakfast of blinis, fruit and prosecco at about 9am then soup at about 12 and main course (probably mushroom wellington) at about 1. Usually we'd go to my extended family in the evening for a massive christmas buffet of nibbles at 7ish but as 40+ groups aren't a possibility we'll just probably snack on cheeseboard and chocolate in the afternoon/evening.
In pre Covid times we might even have another Xmas dinner on Boxing Day with the other side of the family.

Boymumzy · 13/12/2020 01:30

Breakfast around 9.30-10am
Dinner around 2-3pm
No set third meal, cold meat, pickles and the like if we are hungry.

80sMum · 13/12/2020 01:34

This year, Christmas lunch will be at about midday, possibly a bit later but definitely before 1.00pm.

FinallyFluid · 13/12/2020 01:46

Breakfast is bacon croissants, I then set the table ( a beautiful table even if I say so myself Grin) we have starters at about 3.00, stand up and clear off the starter detritus and straighten the table, we then reconvene at anytime between 6.00 and 7.00 for dinner.

This year DS is old enough to have a few drinks, he was last year (18) but I was halfway through treatment for breast cancer and I was wearing a wig etc., so it was quite a low key one as I had chemo the day after boxing day, I was sooo looking forward to this one...... still am to be honest, but could have done without the pandemic.

We have a nice house, a roof that doesn't leak and will have a lovely lovely time albeit constrained by the pandemic.

RavingAnnie · 13/12/2020 01:47

About the same as you.

earsup · 13/12/2020 01:49

I am doing it on the 24 th in the evening as have two students with me for several months and it's what they do back home in Latvia and Poland...I make an effort for them...but I could never eat such a big amount at lunchtime...so would usually eat at 5 pm or later... people that eat at midday must be wiped out by early afternoon !!

Took · 13/12/2020 01:51

SnuggyBuggy · 13/12/2020 05:24

About 1.30 pm so we can watch the Queens speech after eating.

VashtaNerada · 13/12/2020 05:28

Midday Grin But we don’t cook a huge turkey, just a turkey joint so it won’t take all that long to get ready. We’ll eat breakfast when we wake (7ish) so will definitely be ready for Christmas dinner by lunchtime!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 13/12/2020 05:37

We eat about 1/1.30, as we do presents after lunch. We are usually up earlyish anyway, we have breakfast at about 8, then some people head out of a walk and a couple stay back to start on lunch. This year we will be having a walk with my parents who aren't coming for the day as they usually do. Then we have drinks and some bits for a starter at about 12, and lunch at 1.30. We are at the table for a while, then we wash up then we do presents about 3. Then we play with presents/play a game/ nap depending on ages, and have a cheese board and other bits at about 7.

Hohomerryxmas · 13/12/2020 06:38

We have breakfast at around 9-10am, depends when we wake up. Lunch is at 2pm.

JurassicShay · 13/12/2020 06:53

Chocolate/nibbles for breakfast if & when
Main dinner at 1/2pm
Buffet food & leftovers for the next few days

PersonaNonGarter · 13/12/2020 06:57

Breakfast 10am-ish
Christmas Dinner 5/6pm

Trays of smoked salmon sandwiches get made somewhere around 1pm but that’s very moveable

ivykaty44 · 13/12/2020 07:08

We don’t have breakfast/brunch till 10:30 as if the weathers ok I get a sneaky cycle ride in, it’s such a great day for a few miles and works up an appetite . My family is older so stay in bed 💤 I put the meat in before I leave to roast slowly ( i prep everything beforehand so there is very little to do on the day ☺️

Usually about 2ish for Christmas dinner but this year teen dd is working so we'll eat early evening when she gets home.

Parker231 · 13/12/2020 07:46

Always 1pm. Gives us plenty of time to go out for a walk all afternoon.

FippertyGibbett · 13/12/2020 07:47

5pm.
The kids are up early so want breakfast at the normal time, so then they want dinner at the normal time.
I do the Xmas meal slightly earlier than our normal tea so that I’ve washed up in time to enjoy the evening.
