Is now a thing! Plant based cellulose sellotape by Sellotape, bought in Sainsbury's. Well, I'm excited!

Oooh interesting! So it can be recycled? I've been using paper tape for a couple of years.

lexloofah · 12/12/2020 11:18

Yes, I was pleased to see this. I have some and all presents wrapped last week are still firmly wrapped, some of the other tapes I tried including the paper one would go on ok but then unstick after a few days.

The box doesn't make that clear to be honest, just says it contains no plastic.

These plastic alternatives are tricky to dispose of though.

I had veg delivered in a "fully home compostable" bag this week, it's made from potato seedlings, apparently. Fantastic. I dont have a compost heap but I do have a green waste collection, it can go in there. No it can't, it looks like a plastic bag, it can't be included.

Won't that be the same for your cellulose tape? It still looks like sellotape, it can't be recycled with the paper it's stuck to?

Potato peelings...how did that happen?

ReeseWitherfork · 12/12/2020 11:59

Wonder if this is relevant? I don’t find these products very good at stating where they’ve come from or how they can be disposed of. Very weary of greenwashing, but sounds like it’s a step in the right direction.

That is so cool, thanks for thread OP. I will look for the product.

I know it's not a perfect solution by any means, but I believe in an 'every little helps' attitude with all of this. Tiny things adding up etc.
