Reception Parent here so new to buying presents for Teachers, looking for inspiration here.. can I ask what you've bought? DC has 1 main Teacher and 2 TA's in their Class, was looking to spend £5 for the TAs and £10 for the Main Teacher. Is that a bit tight? Confused

Just send a card with a nice message. There’s no need to send gifts, especially if it’ll cost £20

Equimum · 12/12/2020 10:25

There is no need. We have, however, bought a box of chocs that was in offer at £7 for the main class teachers, and chocs that we 2 for £8 for the TAs/ one day a week teacher. I don’t usually do it, but they have gone above and beyond this term to make the school feel ‘normal’.

livingthegoodlife · 12/12/2020 11:40

Don't do gifts here, especially not £20 worth! Do a nice homemade card from your child.

wendz86 · 12/12/2020 12:14

I’ve got teachers vouchers (love2shop), have done coffee shop vouchers before too .

XiCi · 12/12/2020 12:18

I've bought wine and chocolate this year. Previous years have bought toiletry sets, candles, gift cards, biscuit tins etc

Landlubber2019 · 12/12/2020 12:26

Costa voucher ....

DelphiniumBlue · 12/12/2020 12:30

Biscuits that can be eaten next term or a box of Celebrations or similar that can be shared in the staffroom would be appreciated.

I'm a teacher (in Reception at the moment). I'd love a hand made card and if your child could have a go at writing a message inside and their name, I would be absolutely delighted. I love to see them using the phonics that I've been teaching!
We really don't expect presents, but I have boxes and boxes of cards that children have made me over the years.
If you really do want to get a present, maybe a Costa / Starbucks voucher. We tend to get lots and lots of chocolates and candles! As an aside, I'd much rather have someone spent the same on me and my TA if they are buying presents, iyswim. She works just as hard as me and is really amazing.

I buy chocolates or a tin of biscuits for them to share (they put them in the cupboard and bring them out in staff meetings).

This year we already gave chocolates (in case kids are sent home) and teachers told me they cracked them open already....Good on them.

NickMarlow · 12/12/2020 12:32

Mine have made Christmas tree decorations for their teachers/TAs/key workers (8 staff members altogether for our 2dc!) and I've bought chocolates for the staff rooms. But I've also written a heartfelt thank you message in their Christmas cards for everything they've done for our kids this year, which I honestly think is the most important thing.

AliceMck · 12/12/2020 12:36

Last year I did gift bags with a mini bottle of wine & chocolates/biscuits. This year it’s cans of gin and some chocolate biscuits.

ChiaraRimini · 15/12/2020 17:32

I don't normally bother but I've got ours a set of mini hand creams this year as I'm sure they will come in handy.

Deelish75 · 15/12/2020 18:35

Reception teachers tend to spend an fair amount of time outside, so last year I bought her a pair of gloves (plain ones same colour as her coat) I think they cost £7.50 same as a bottle of wine.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/12/2020 19:06

I've just given a £5 Costa voucher each, just enough to get a hot drink and maybe a cake

Smellybluecheese · 15/12/2020 19:17

Mine ‘studied’ the Gruffalo this year so I got a felt Christmas bauble for each of them - Gruffalo, fox, mouse (they did a dress up day so they each got the one they dressed up as).

Stompythedinosaur · 16/12/2020 00:57

I spent £2 each on a regular size tub of Celebrations and the dc made cards.

I think it is more about having a token to give really.

FeltCarrot · 16/12/2020 06:48

@Deelish75 In my school, it’s the reception TA’s who spend all day outside!

spiderlight · 16/12/2020 09:37

When my DS was in Reception, I got his teacher a personalised bookmark that said 'Thank you for teaching me to read'. I tried to get unusual book-related gifts over the years, especially if a teacher mentioned that a particular book was their favourite.

Livpool · 16/12/2020 09:51

We've been told not to buy cards or presents for ours his year - am I being wrong to take notice?!

Will get some chocolates just in case
