Presents for 5 year old son

Our son is 5. I'm at a bit of a loss to know what to get him for Christmas. He loves cars so my husband thought maybe some sort of well made garage? Can anyone recommend a good one that won't just come apart?
Any other suggestions for both presents and stocking fillers gratefully received. Thanks

My 5 yr old ds adores lego, the Ninjago range in particular and that is pretty much all he wants for Christmas this year. But the lego City range has all sorts of emergency vehicles, garages etc. If he is new to Lego then google set 60232. It is a garage and went down v well last Christmas for us. If he likes building things then a different approach to that is Magformers or the like, magnetic tiles you can build into different things. Does he like books - Dogman or the smurfs are favourites here. For stocking fillers, my son got a mini measuring tape which he loves and is perfect stocking size. Also a new umbrella that will poke out the top - a space one that changes colour when it rains.

We have an ELC wooden garage which we bought 2nd hand an is still going strong, but DS1 (4.5) doesn't really play with it much anymore...he always admires hotwheels tracks when they come on tv.

Hot wheels is a good bet for a 5 year old. We’ve had hours of play value from our sets and along with Lego (and board games) they are the only “toys” my now 9 year old still plays with. The sets that launch the cars are great for younger kids as they can play independently once you’ve helped with set up. The free-form stunt sets are great when they can assemble it themselves. We’ve also got this one www.amazon.co.uk/Hot-Wheels-GDY60-4-Lane-Elimination/dp/B07BHPKCLM/ref=asc_df_B07BHPKCLM/?hvlocphy=1007171&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=463098729818&hvpone&hvlocint&th=1&hvpos&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-554939334693&hvrand=632736131579295532 which provides hours of play by setting up contests with all his different cars.

If he likes cars then definitely hot wheels with ramps etc.
My 5yo ds has asked for a yellow taxi toy. So maybe some different kinds of cars he doesnt have, burger van, ice cream van etc.
Stomp rocket.
Superhero figures.
Playmobil.
Lego
Puzzles and books
Cuddly toy

My DS adores Jurassic tracks which combine his two big loves - cars and dinosaurs.
Pixar Cars 3 Florida Speedway is brilliant.

+1 for Hot Wheels. We have an older version of this:

Ultimate City Garage

It is still going strong 2 years on and gets played with close to every day. It was also a huge hit with playdates (pre Covid).

At age 5 I'd suggest

Lego esp the Lego City range
Hot Wheels
Brio railway
Early board games e.g. Monopoly Jr, Labyrinth Jr, Uno

We had a Hape Garage but it wasn't used much. I had a Fisher Price garage with Matchbox cars as a child and loved it. Working car lift to multiple levels and a spiral ramp. I'd be looking out for features like these.

My 5 year old is really into Pokemon and I've got between my 2 non baby DC a few pokemon balls with little Pokemon inside them :)

I second figures from fictional things they like - Minecraft, etc. And yes, definitely Lego.
