So we were watching Something the other day when I announced I had never tried Camembert, DP has brought some as he insists I should try it. So tell me am I in for a treat or is it overrated... and any possible suggestion as to what to have with it would be great 😃

Baked in the oven with crusty french Bread to dip (I like to use the part bake rolls) Needs nothing additionally, perfect

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 10/12/2020 23:18

Stick in rosemary, garlic and drizzle with honey before roasting.

1000umbrellas · 10/12/2020 23:20

It's like a stronger version of Brie. Keep it out of the fridge for a few days if you like your cheese stinky ripe.

HermosaMain · 10/12/2020 23:21

It's overrated. It tastes like feet.

lurker101 · 10/12/2020 23:22

I would pierce a few holes in the top, slot in some chopped garlic, some rosemary and a glug of white wine, then bake in the oven and enjoy with some charcuterie meat and crusty bread. You’ll not go back

AIMD · 10/12/2020 23:22

I fuckin love Camembert

TheCrow · 10/12/2020 23:23

I love it! Baked in the oven, cranberry sauce on top, warmed up french stick bread dunked in 🤤

Smellbellina · 10/12/2020 23:24

It can taste like fit but in a really lovely way.
If it’s whole bake it and drizzle the honey on after, have it with a warm baguette.
If it’s not whole, make sure it’s brought up to room temp before you eat it.
Lush!

quarentini · 10/12/2020 23:26

I like to bake in oven with garlic, rosemary and honey and then dip pigs in blankets in it

TheCrow · 10/12/2020 23:29

@quarentini oooft stop it 😂

quarentini · 10/12/2020 23:44

@TheCrow it's so dirty but so good.
My secret Christmas treat

SospanFrangipan · 10/12/2020 23:48

I love nothing more than a baked Camembert with red onion chutney & crusty bread 😍 enjoy!

Spacerader · 10/12/2020 23:58

Its not for me, it tastes like bitter old feet.

NCGardener · 12/12/2020 10:00

I love camembert.

Cut some slits in to the top and insert garlic, rosemary.

Drizzle olive oil.

Bake for 20ish mins

Serve with tiger bread and mango chutney

Omg! I might have to try this...it sounds pure filth Grin
Frazzlefrazle · 12/12/2020 10:10

My favourite Christmas treat!

Fancy bread sticks and cranberry sauce to dip in or get the ones from the supermarkets with the bread around it. Bake it with garlic slices popped in and a little oil. Bloody fantastic.

Chimchar · 12/12/2020 10:16

I have a ceramic Camembert baker thing I was bought as a gift.

Do I take the cheese out if it's little wooden crate before I put it in the baker? Then once it's cooked, do you slice the top off or just break through it?

Also, last silly question...If you don't eat it all, can you keep it to eat cold or do you throw it away?

SpamIAm · 12/12/2020 11:09

@Chimchar just eat it all. I tend to cut a cross in the top once it's cooked and peel the rind back.

TheGriffle · 12/12/2020 11:13

I put a cross in the top before baking then peel these back to dip in hot crusty bread. Also excellent with warm onion chutney.

I have 2 in the fridge I was saving for Christmas but I’m now going to have one for lunch. I love baked Camembert.

AvoidingRealHumans · 12/12/2020 11:18

Love this thread. I've only had it when out and at other houses, so any help will be appreciated- do I bake in the wooden pot? Also at tesco yesterday I noticed camemberts and baking camemberts - do I need a baking camembert to bake or will just a camembert do?
Drooling at the suggestions on here 🤤

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 12/12/2020 11:22

Sounds delicious. Do you serve one cheese per person or is it a sharing dish?

tinselfest · 12/12/2020 11:24

You don't have to cook the thing, just eat it like normal cheese with some crusty bread or crackers.

userxx · 12/12/2020 11:34

@AvoidingRealHumans Get the baking one, they usually come in a pot, bloody lovely.

AliceMck · 12/12/2020 13:18

Yum

I make my own pizza, cranberry sauce, chicken pieces and Camembert on top yum yum yum
