Have just found an M&S Christmas pudding in my cupboard with a best before date of Feb 2018.

How's that for forward planning? Can anyone else beat that.

Oh, and before you ask, YES, would probably eat it. I am no respecter of date codes. Grin

It's probably just matured and gotten even better in all that time! 😂 I would probably still eat it too except I don't like Christmas pudding

I agree with TheCrow,it probably would taste better now than before “maturing“😀. I have unopened crackers from 2 years ago in the cupboard under the stairs.(Pulling crackers not eating ones).

I once found a packet of dehydrated mashed potato powder in the depths of my parents' cupboards that had expired in the year of my birth. I was at university at the time... Since then I've done regular sweeps of their larder and gotten rid of anything expired more than a few years. They're not hoarders otherwise, but this seems to be somewhat of a blindspot.

My salt is 5 years out of date. 😂 The replacement in cupboard is almost 2 years out. Obviously don't use as much as i thought

I still have one from last year. It supposedly went off in September but I'm not buying that!

I found a jar of spices in my parents’ cupboard that expired in 1999 this was 2017 😳

I bought all my basic Christmas decorations from John Lewis in 1996 when I bought my first home. They had beautiful craft paper type wrapping paper in lovely jewel colours with stars that matched the decorations and was reduced to pennies on Christmas Eve so I bought a huge stash (an entire cupboard full). I then bought a whole bunch of gift bags and boxes in 1999 that had a similar design but in gold and silver for my PFB's first Christmas that we have been recycling ever since. I then added some translucent tissue paper/cellophane that I picked up for 20p in the Liberty sale in 2003, I bought the entire stock Grin

I haven't needed to buy Christmas wrapping paper for the past 24 years apart for some cheesey, gaudy stuff "on behalf of Santa" for stockings but even that I buy in the sales for 10p a roll.

I wouldn't exatly say there was any forward planning involved, I just spotted a bargain that I really liked.

I once bought rock salt that wanked on on the packaging about how it had been laid down into the vastness of the oceans over millions of years. It had a three year shelf life. Hmm

Can't beat that glas but yesterday found cannelloni pasta Jan 2020, but plan to eat it though. As I've always heard 'they're only a guide' Grin Grin I am always eating hummus weeks out of date and I'm still here.

Helix I always give my MIL's cupboards a sweep now & again, as she forgets that she has things at the back of the cupboard.

I've some spiced cranberry sauce from 2016!

My sister also sees ‘best by dates’ as some sort of challenge.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 10/12/2020 17:27

Salt has a use by date?!
