... and they spend on you obviously!

We are always on a ridiculously tight budget so have very little to spend on each other, but I am intrigued what other people spend

Come tell me your personal details

Have spent looooooooads in the past when I was working (took him on holiday once ) but now I am a skint SAHM it's a much more frugal affair! TBH, we don't really need anything, so it will be token pressies only. I think we'd both rather spend the money on yummy food anyway.

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 22/10/2007 09:03

Same as LL!

We don't buy each other anything. We give the kids £10 to buy us something but that's it. Never any money left for us but we have gone out for dinner with our friends at Christmas or something to make up for it.

JARM · 22/10/2007 09:07

Usually nomore than £30-40 each.

No point in spending more in my eyes!

morethanmum · 22/10/2007 09:09

Depends how flush we are. This year, token amount. Last year, loads! We always get each other something as I don't want it to turn into yet another day of being all about the children getting things!

harpsichordcarrier · 22/10/2007 09:10

we have a limit of £50.
dh usually ignores it though
he is an accountant so apparently these sort of rules don't apply

morethanmum · 22/10/2007 09:11

Ignores it in your favour? Or spends £25 and rounds it up?

Furball · 22/10/2007 09:23

We don't buy presents, just have nick naks in stockings.

FlameBat · 22/10/2007 09:23

Loving the accountant rules!

It is good seeing the token amounts etc showing up Now waiting for someone to come on and tell me about their £1000 limit

On the really tight birthdays/Christmas we have started a new system of buying a book as a card - both of us hate the amount spent on cards and them just being a waste of paper, so we are buying books, writing a message in the cover, and that does the job of both

(Some of us do very well out of that deal what with reading anything stood still, so in effect get double the amount of presents )

We always buy each other presents from the children and then a token gift each total spend £25 each.
Feel it important that kiddies give us something they helped pick even if do not contribute( only prescoolers haha)

mustrunmore · 22/10/2007 09:26

Last year, £5 on each other.
This year, £7... we had to up the budget as it was so hard! Plus I've got him a swop item and a freecycle item too

fannyanne · 22/10/2007 09:27

Flamebat - I agree with the card thing, we don't buy cards within the family, hugs and words are much better

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 22/10/2007 09:29

Flame - when I said "token" clearly I meant around the £1000 mark... (if only!)

ImBarryScott · 22/10/2007 09:31

We have a pretty tight budget, but a reasonably generous £50 limit. The snag is that we buy each other semi-essentials eg new underwear, work shirts, diary, replacements for anything broken/worn out. This means we get pretty boring presents but we feel it's more festive to have a few things to unwrap even though were skint .

Carmenere · 22/10/2007 09:37

We spend around £100 on each other but we spend feck all the rest of the year.

shinyshoes · 22/10/2007 11:12

I will spend £50.00 on him and i've told him to do the same. I start maternity leave next month and my money will drop.
We had this discussion the other day (well I did) about not getting eachother anything, we dont need anything, but he says 'if I want to get you something will and I wont be told not too'. I explained that I'd feel bad as I couldnt afford to get him anything in return and he just shrugged and told me 'that was my decision'.

He makes me so angry, I feel I have to get him somthing now, so I said If we are to do this its to be £50.00 only, no more.

I know he'll spend more and i'll feel guilty but he just won't listen and wont take into consideration the way I feel.

Sorry rant over

TellusMater · 22/10/2007 11:18

Varies.

Last year I got a laptop, and DH got something I made for him (but he did love it, honest!). But it can, and has, been the other way around.

We get what we think the other person would love, and spend what we can afford to spend.

This year - not much .

choosyfloosy · 22/10/2007 11:22

Bout £20 - 30.

It's supposed to be £10 - 20 but it's nice to set a low budget and then bust it

justthehousekeeper · 22/10/2007 11:27

Dh has already had his pressie so is getting a cd under the tree as times are 'ard. Last year times were 'arder so i bought all my own gifts and gave them to him to wrap - sad i know but at least money wasn't wasted on crap!!

NomDeBroomstick · 22/10/2007 11:27

Well, this year I am working (after 4yrs of not working) so I want to treat him. I will prob spend around £150 - £200.

I'm not posting what I'm getting him as he might be lurking....

Previously we spent £50 max on each other. I don't care what he spends on me, tbh, in fact , i know he is already beginning to panic

Hulababy · 22/10/2007 11:29

Varies but around £100-£200 depending what the big item is I am getting, along with any little bits.

Elasticbandstand · 22/10/2007 11:43

quite oftenwe don't.
or a joint present for both of us for both of us, bit sad, but have a tight budget and share our finances,

TheBlonde · 22/10/2007 11:50

I spent about 150 quid on him last year
He spent far too much on me but he was in big trouble at the time so was trying to make it up to me

This year it will probably be around the 150 mark again if I can think of anything to get him that isn't computer related

MrsPuddleduck · 22/10/2007 11:51

We usually buy something we both want which is a bit of a luxury and then don't buy presents for eachother.

Last year be had a DVD recorder and this year a Wii.
