Struggling with elderly dads...

Well, they will both mind hugely if I call them elderly but my dad is almost 80 and stepdad is nearing 70.

I have NO idea what to get either.

They are in Denmark so I have to post it or ship directly.

Last year I did Scottish plaids
year before shirts
the year before slippers (stepdads are like new when we went this year I don't think he uses them - dad got new ones for his birthday this year)

Dad is a huge reader but I can't get books as he has read SO many. vouchers not possible as he is in DK and doesn't use the internet.

Stepdad, not a great reader. He is however a hunter and fisher. so ought to be easy. However, over the years he has got everything within that and I am again struggling.

Both have diabetes so food gifts are out. Stepdad doesn't drink and dad only beer (and has to be Tuborg)

Maybe a magazine subscription for the hunter/fisher. Same for your dad if he has any interests?

Enko · 09/12/2020 23:17

He has 3 magazines on subscription I doubt he would want more.

My Dads interest is reading Grin I get how ironic that is here.

They are both lovely but Oh I want to scream over Christmas presents. & I get the easy way out as for birthdays I can get away with sending them flowers. My sister cant.

Gift vouchers for something local? A nice restaurant they like?

What do they spend their money on?

BeaLola · 10/12/2020 01:08

Watch
Something similar to Netflix ?
Tickets to come and visit you
Daily newspaper ordered and delivered
I have bought me young (89) DF a tree for his garden
Outdoor chair
Gardening / outdoor muck boots
Bird feeder
New aftershave upgrade
Decent quality handkerchiefs

After years of getting my dad gifts that he politely said thank you for and never used, i now just get him nicer versions of things he would get himself - nicer red wine, posh writing paper, magazine subscription to the Economist rather than him buying it occasionally. I don’t have to be too imaginative, he doesn’t have to fake being grateful, we’re both happier Grin

Jumpers ? Leather gloves?

Slightly Foxed subscription for the reader? It's a quarterly magazine reviewing books that have (generally) been around for years but have been forgotten. They also publish lovely editions of some of the books they review.
