Christmas tv guide - which one will you be buying?

We only buy one tv guide a year and it's the Christmas one - always Radio Times which I find comprehensive and I enjoy sitting down to read it. However, it has gone up to £5 this year which I feel is extortionate so I won't be buying it and will make do with a freebie which comes with the weekend newspaper if necessary. Wondered what others feel about the Christmas tv guide.

Probably none, I have weaned myself off the Christmas Radio Times due to the cost and don’t like any of the others. We don’t buy newspapers either. There’s plenty of websites that tell you what’s on.

FelicityPike · 09/12/2020 09:16

Radio Times. It’s a staple and it just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without it for me.

Plonque · 09/12/2020 09:19

£5 😬
There was a free one in the Saturday mirror, just gone (no help now, obvs!) it only starts on the 21st but that's fine for us 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 09/12/2020 09:19

£5???
I don’t think I will bother.

myhobbyisouting · 09/12/2020 09:24

Radio Times - because I'm organised and got a 6 issues for £1 offer back in March and delayed the first delivery until the end of November GrinGrinGrin

We have been getting the radio times for at least 5 years, putting ring round all the tv he is intrested in was a tradition when my husband was kid so we carry it on

TeapotCollection · 09/12/2020 09:29

Got ours 😊 What’s on TV £1.40. Always used to have TV Times but no way were we paying that. Our one is fine

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/12/2020 09:30

I picked up the last 🎄Radio Times in Asda the other day. 🙂

OHolyTights · 09/12/2020 09:36

Radio Times. It came with the supermarket delivery. It's a tradition since my own childhood to have it at Christmas but £5 did feel like too much to have to pay this year. The annual family Battle of the Highlighter Pens has become a new tradition since my DCs became old enough to wield them.

IndoorLiving · 09/12/2020 15:27

I was excited to get the Radio Times today - but couldn’t believe the £5 cost

PerditaNitt · 09/12/2020 16:02

Radio Times. It is overpriced because they probably make most of their money from
The Christmas edition (I don’t know anyone who buys it at any other time of the year). £5 is ok for a one off magazine and a few hours of fun looking through the programmes.

pinkksugarmouse · 09/12/2020 16:53

I have always bought the TV Times. Not sure if I will this year. If its £5 like the radio Times I will look for a cheaper one.
DH has a Guardian subscription and gets a TV guide every week so no need to pay for one for Christmas but it has always been a Christmas tradition for me.

Same Grin. Don't think I was as organised as March but was definitely sorted about August time. I get the 6 issues for £1 every year, its such a bargain

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 09/12/2020 17:02

Still got last year's. Prob just dig that out!! Same stuff be on likely!!

TheChosenTwo · 09/12/2020 17:16

I have literally never bought a tv magazine! I can get the programmes up on my telly, what’s the appeal to having it in a magazine? (This is genuine curiosity by the way, not a snarky response!) - although I don’t watch much tv and definitely not ‘festive themed specials’ telly so maybe it’s that?

WitchesSpelleas · 09/12/2020 17:36

I've bought a Radio Times. I never buy a TV guide at any other time of the year so I don't mind the high cost as a one off.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/12/2020 17:41

Radio Times. I have it ordered to be delivered (still £5) will have highlighters at the ready Grin

ShowOfHands · 09/12/2020 17:42

I buy the Radio Times once a year. I bought it on Saturday in fact.

It's part of my childhood memories. Christmas TV was a real treat with film premieres, one offs, cooking shows etc and we used to have a highlighter and we pored over it.

I do the same now. We have a highlighter each in different colours and hunt out our favourite shows. We don't watch much television at all so it still feels a bit special to us.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/12/2020 17:48

I was the oldest of three and frequently in charge over Christmas while both my parents worked and I had to co-ordinate the TV schedule with multiple highlighters and all the finesse of an air traffic controller to keep the peace.

VinylDetective · 09/12/2020 17:51

I bought the Radio Times this week. Like you, OP, we only buy it at Christmas so £5 didn’t seem ludicrous.
