My tree won't fit in the garage

I've just bought my tree and it is too tall to fit in the garage. According to the instructions we are to remove the netting and keep it in the garage in some water for up to a week. DH wants to leave it outside in a bucket but I think the water will freeze over.

Is it OK to leave it outside. I know it has been on a Norwegian hill with snow on it, but it is now felled.

I've always put my tree up indoors straight away. Never had an issue with needle drop.

It sounds very needy! Why can’t you bring it straight inside? Have you got a base that you put water in?

MarshmallowManiac · 08/12/2020 11:02

We put it up in the sitting room in water for a few days beforehand but we were just told let it open up and settle before you decorate it. They said you could put it in the garden, but we thought if we open it up we will never get it upstairs! Grin

You can leave it outside with no issues. The water won’t freeze completely if you give it a bucketful! We do this every year, helps it last.

Ours always comes straight in to the house, it’s always been fine

Should I just bring it in? It's a non drop one.

Bring it in Woke take off the netting, and just let it settle for a few days.

Apparently we are meant to leave it outside for a bit??? I didn't do it last time and it was ok. It's been sitting outside the shop for at least a week under cover so how's that different to me leaving it n my garage?
I just need it to look fab Xmas day.

We've never left ours outside in fifteen years of having trees! I leave it with the net removed for a few hours, for the branches to come down a little, but it's hard to hold the children back when they just want to get stuck in and fill its branches with decorations.

WokesFromHome · 08/12/2020 11:55

Ok, I'm bringing it in.
U lot are fabulous as ever.

Another one here who has had real trees for 20ushbyears and never left them outside! The most important thing is to slice off an inch or so off the bottom of the trunk then get it straight into water. If it is left standing out of water after being cut the bottom of the trunk seals over and it can't then take up water so dies off/dries out more quickly.

They are trimmed, watered and up. Grin
Thx
