How are you feeling about cards this year?

I've clung on to doing cards over the past few years. It feels like most of my friends are stopping or have already stopped. This year, I can't find the motivation. COVID feels like a good excuse not to be sending off more germs into people's homes but am I just being a bit miserable? If you usually do xmas cards, are you bothering this year? As a follow up, if you don't do it this year, do you think you'll go back to it in the future?

I packed parcels and cards early. Left them for a week before posting

Kids school -
School only accept them on Mondays
And hand them out on Friday

So in quartine for 3/4 days

Cards are such a hassle. They clutter up my house and they’re a pain the write. I’m only sending them once I receive them this year, so will hopefully start to discourage the idea!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/12/2020 19:37

I still do them, though have culled a few this year - those who didn’t send last year and who we’re unlikely ever to see again.
Still 40 odd though.

I like receiving them - they form part of our decorations, blu-tacked to painted surfaces. Nice and cheerful and Christmassy.

IMO a lot of the people who have stopped, citing the environment or that they’re giving the money to charity instead, probably just CBA. Admittedly writing them can feel like a chore. I do realise that the cost of postage is a real factor for quite a few people though.,

I always send a few and have done so this year but only to friends and family I don't routinely see over Christmas. I'm as guilty as the next person of not keeping in touch enough and I like to let certain people know I'm thinking of them.

I generally receive less than I send but that doesn't bother me, I wouldn't want someone who finds sending them a hassle to go out of their way just because I've sent them one.

I feel more like sending cards this year and have started writing them earlier than usual. I doubt if cards carry Covid - has anybody anywhere caught it from their mail?

PleaseLetIanBeDead · 07/12/2020 19:45

Covid can be passed on via mail

My eldest son, aged 24, died on Christmas Day last year... suddenly and unexpectedly.
I don’t want to send or receive cards with his name missing. Just unsure about how to politely let people know this. Surely nobody will think it is sensible to wish me a ‘Merry Christmas’??

MrsHugsxx · 07/12/2020 19:55

I've never been bothered with cards so won't be sending any this year either. I'm sorry for your loss stitchingguru.

ArabellaPilkington · 07/12/2020 21:35

stitchinguru sending strength to you for what must be such a difficult time. I'm not sure you need to let people know, one would hope people would understand.

Covid really can't be passed on my mail, see Dr Xand on this:

When my parents died, the following Christmas I wrote and printed a little note informing people who had not found our otherwise. I put it in my cards. That worked for me. The note was a bit of a tribute to them.

I never got a card referring to them again.

I love cards. I make special ones for close family, and a simple card for others. It is part of Christmas for me to think of friends and family.

Especially this year.
