Challenge-impossible to buy for DM

I've just been reading another thread about what to buy for your parents and I have this challenge every single year (birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day etc) my parents are literally impossible to buy for, so I'm putting it to the good people of MN to come up with at least one idea!

My DM: has no hobbies, she is not an avid cook, does not exercise, doesn't read or watch movies (she will if something is on tv though), does not like going to the cinema/theatre/live music etc, is not into fashion or beauty, is not into home decorating, does not wear jewellery, they do not go away on holidays, they do not eat out often and are not into gourmet type foods, she does not drink alcohol.

My DDad I could get away with buying some beer or a scratch card gift pack.

I'm sure I've missed out some things, but I challenge you to find something that I could buy my DMum!

Might be a bit late to organise but what about a sketch of her grandkids- there are artists online that do this from photographs.

Thinking of buying my Impossible to buy for dad a David Austin rose to plant in the garden.

My DM is very similar. She definitely needs a new IPad and Iphone but my budget is only £25 :(

My gran was like this. My dad would do something like buy her some Guinness and give her a tenner for the bingo!

BestZebbie · 05/12/2020 19:17

Are the poker machines physical machines she puts coins in, or on an IPad? If the former, give
a massive bag of change? :-)

twoglassesofprosecco · 05/12/2020 19:31

What about an upgrade on something she already has?
You said she has people visit so perhaps nice cutlery or glasses? Napkins and good napkin rings.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/12/2020 19:33

what about a photo book or calendar made with family pics and lots and lots of pics of the grandchildren?

Counselling? A private GP appointment?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/12/2020 10:06

Ask her to write a wish list of exact items she would like to receive. I've had a couple of people say I'm quite fussy but then they've never once asked me what I actually would like.

Earache2020 · 06/12/2020 20:25

How about:

Posh sheets
Posh throw for the sofa
Some type of gadget that makes her life easier
Calendar with pictures of the grandkids
A bum bag she could use for work
Hand cream because she works as a cleaner so may get dry hands
Does she drink tea or coffee? A nice China mug.

For my 60th birthday i got an ipad. Not into tech at all so left it in box. During lockdown 1 opened it (18mths) later. It has saved my life. Love all the things it can do. Have since bought Alexa and love it. Worth a try.
