Where do you generally buy your Christmas goods from?

Do you just buy from your usual supermarket or do you make special trips to some where for your goods?

Any special recommendations?
Following good reviews on here I bought the stollen & florentine's from Aldi!!

Well, I normally mostly shop in SuperValu, but occasionally go to Dunnes instead. I often get nice bits from M&S. And I have a few local delis I go to frequently enough anyway. My choc come from Leonidas if I have not been travelling (if travelling, I often go to Neuhaus or other Belgian choclatiers other than Leonidas - or just get a massive Leonidas for half the price of here at home). And Lidl for various things too (including their stolen for years now). I normally get quite a few bits from the farmers market near my DPs a couple of weeks beforehand also. And I go to a good cheese store near my office (as well as a few specific cheeses I get on my travels).

This year, it's odd.
Haven't been to the farmer's market since February due to Covid. But I have managed to find online routes to 2 of the producers so will have my smoked salmon and good hot chocolate mix.

There is no travel so no goodies from Brussels.

The Leonidas near my house has closed so if I go into the office I could get to one in town, but I may not be in town before Christmas. So that may also limit my cheese and cured meats buying from the cheese store.

We had been using a local fishmongers on occasion but have been going there a lot more frequently, and he does shellfish for Christmas. So that will be a positive.

I have my stollen from Lidl already.

Local M&S is still open so even if I don't get to town, I can get some nice bits.

I will probably stick to SuperValu this year, as the big Dunnes was badly hit with Covid and is very very busy at this time of year, whereas SV manages numbers instore better.

And as it will be just our own household this year, as long as we have some treats, some alcohol, and enough ordinary food, we can make some treats ourselves and be quite happy with nice meals even if they are not our normal festive fare. I haven't ordered a turkey (some years we do, others we just pick one up when we see it) so will either find one in Christmas week or get something else that is nice and that we will enjoy. In fact, this year, having not slowed down at all and not even done my usual levels of baking, I am looking forward to some proper time in the kitchen getting stuck in (I got some good cooking chocolate a month ago in readiness, and my general baking supplies are normally pretty decent, so hopefully....)

I get my main shopping from Asda , frozen party food from Iceland and other bits from Aldi, meat from butchers and veg from our market.

Lovemusic33 · 04/12/2020 19:09

I have ordered from local butcher (cheese, meat, smoked salmon and a veg box).

Trying to avoid the supermarkets this year so have been picking up a few bits with my online shopping (snacks, pickles etc..) and have ordered chocolates online.

We don’t drink so no alcohol needed.

Sainsbury here
Except DS and the cats we're vegetarian

M&S for some nice bits.

livingthegoodlife · 04/12/2020 20:42

Lidl for most of it. Waitrose for turkey & stuffing. Local sausages.

Cheesypea · 04/12/2020 21:06

I usually shop at aldi lidl and the market. However I've picked up some bits at waitrose, M&S and asda as the range is limited in my usual places.
I'll be back to lidl for the Christmas shop now.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/12/2020 22:03

Sainsbury's and Booths in the main. Plus a local cheese shop this year.

Chocolatechocolatechocolate · 04/12/2020 23:03

Vegetables, potatoes etc I always go to Aldi but for the special bits, it’s always M&S. For the cheeses we have an amazing stall at our local farmers market

Deelish75 · 05/12/2020 00:20

Turkey, ham, pigs in blankets and stuffing, Yule log and profiteroles are from M&S.
Fruit, veg, salad, dairy, bakery, gravy, sauces, and picnic/buffet food for Boxing Day will get from Sainsbury’s.
I make my own Christmas cake, pudding and mince pies but all the ingredients come from Sainsbury’s.

ParkheadParadise · 05/12/2020 00:25

Food from M&S.
I use the local butcher, greengrocer and bakers.
I also use a local florist for my Christmas wreaths and flowers.
