Stocking fillers that aren't tat

I have no inspiration this year - I'm running on fumes...

My son is 12. His main presents are sorted but I need to put together a stocking. In the past I've spent a fair bit on just rubbish - things that he puts in a drawer and doesn't do anything with. You know - YoYos and that type of stuff. They play with it once and then meh. I'm uncomfortable with the WASTE - of money, of resources...

... but I still want to get him a stocking. What can I put in it, that isn't cheap plastic rubbish? Because yeah - I don't want to spend a load either. I was going to put a £10 gift card in as a 'big' thing - but shops are going under fast :-(

So. I have a bag of chocolate coins, a tube of fruit pastilles and a Simon Says handheld memory game thing that runs perilously close to being something that'll be shoved in a drawer. What can I put in a stocking?!

Shower gel, deodorant (razors? My 12yo boy knowledge isn't complete)
Multitool... Maybe the credit card shaped one
Bike lights
Pringles
Hobby stuff
Torch

BalconiWaferAddict · 03/12/2020 17:52

Socks, hot chocolate sticks, bath/shower supplies, small nerf gun, small gadgets, headphones?

formerbabe · 03/12/2020 17:53

I also have a 12 year old ds.

I've got him

Adidas aftershave (only £4 from b&m!)
Lynx deodorant
Books
Stationery
Nike socks
Chocolate
Magic trick I found on eBay...it's a ripped coin one
History magazine

How about

Sports bottle
Hat
Gloves
Wallet
Fidget cube
Hair gel

Copperblack · 03/12/2020 17:54

Things that can be consumed/used such as Lynx, novelty socks, water bottle, cool laces, torch, letting, poster, batteries ( my kids’ favourite)

Sonofapizzaman · 03/12/2020 17:55

A decent water bottle? Might take up too much space depending on the size of the stocking though.

beela · 03/12/2020 17:58

Anything that you might need to buy him soon. Toothbrush, socks, gloves, toiletries, stationery.

Blueraincoat20 · 03/12/2020 18:04

I do as above - practical stuff like art supplies, socks, gloves, then chocs etc and a few sciencey toys eg Crystal growing, compass, fossils (maybe a bit young for your DS). Also 80s office type desk toys are surprisingly popular! Eg those little metal balls that hit each other...

bestbefore · 03/12/2020 18:05

Mike liked anything to do with poo or farts at that age!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/12/2020 18:22

A favourite magazine rolled up
Novelty usb stick
Phone cover
Headphones
Hot choc stirrers
Fav sweets
Deodorant /hair products
Top trumps

My daughter is 12. Today I went into Tiger and bought a set of juggling balls, some chopsticks, and some fairy lights, all for her stocking. She always gets a Toblerone and chocolate coins, and I'll also add pants, deodorant, and socks.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 03/12/2020 18:25

Mike?

SendHelp30 · 03/12/2020 18:25

Lovemusic33 · 03/12/2020 18:53

My dd (16) tells me that the stocking is the best thing about Christmas, not sure why as most of it she never uses and ends up in a drawer.

This years stocking contains....

Bath bomb
Silly socks
Multi tool
Stress sprout/ball
Pop tarts
Beanie boo
Fidget rings

Dd2 (14)
Flashing bath bomb
Rubix cube jigsaw
Multi tool
Fidget rings
Lego mini figure
Chilli bottle
Lush bath jelly

My son is 12 too, I've got non-tangle earbuds, Swiss Army knife, socks with pic of our dog on (if they arrive in time!), toffees, nice writing pens, Lynx shower gel and deodorant, drumsticks lollies, bath bombs. Looking for more ideas to add though.

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 19:49

Oh also touchscreen gloves. Not sure good they are though!

Sounds great! Is this also charging station?

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 19:52

Love the tomato ketchup idea, definitely going to do that!

CeeJay81 · 03/12/2020 20:01

My 11, not far off being 12 year old boy is having these.

Monopoly deal
Naruto headband
Mario Lego figure
Lynx set
Scotty dog short bread.
American Candy.

Does he like gaming? or Anime or something like Harry Potter that you can get small gifts connected to.

Badgerstmary · 03/12/2020 20:32

My 12 yr old ds is also having Lynx deodorant, Scotty shortbread(The Range), American sweets(Primark), Top Gear mag, tube of sweets, bath bombs & a drinks bottle if it fits. Otherwise it will go under the tree.

TheRealJeanLouise · 03/12/2020 20:34

We love Rex London for stocking stuff. Lots of traditional games and random bits and bobs.
