Lighthearted, I know Christmas will be very different this year but some things never change!

What gift do you get every year without fail that you immediately know will be sent to the attic/charity shop/the pits of hades?

My Nan used to give us a box of Black Magic chocolate every year. We all hated dark chocolate but she never picked anything else. They stopped selling it in the supermarkets in the early 2000s but she’d still conjure it up every year! In the years since she passed away I still look at a box on the shelf in shops and it makes me smile.

My MIL also gifts me candles which I really dislike. Luckily she stumbled across a nice Yankee candle a few years ago so DH steers her towards that to fulfil her candle needs.

I’d love to hear other people’s repeat offenders!

I have been given unsuitable gifts from the parents of my Brownies but to be fair they don't know I am Vegan and allergic to alcohol. I got a bottle of red wine one year but although I can pass on white, I don't know anyone who drinks Red and it has a Cork and I don't have a corkscrew so I can't even pour it away and recycle the bottle. It's been sat in my shed for 18mths. 😂 DH eats any chocolates. The best gifts to give a Girlguiding leader are handmade cards and pictures from the girls. Looking through them brings a lump to my throat and tears me up. 💗

I have a friend who always gifts our friendship group makeup hampers. I don't wear makeup. My skin is bad and putting anything on it makes it worse, so bare is best for me. She knows this. She's even given me a lift to the dermatologist and knows this is why I wear nothing on my face .. so why insist on this gift?

@HelebethH honestly its not worth the hassle. She does things to get a rise out of people and I'm not giving her the satisfaction. In the past she has also given one dd significantly more gifts than the other (they were both under 8 at the time, dd1 noticed but never said a word even though she was visibly upset) I do take my own food with me every time we go over. The problem is she knows someone else who is intolerant to milk but eats it anyway and just lives with the consequences. Personally I would rather not be in pain or lose control of my bowels in public, but everyone is different!

Fair enough. At the end of the day you will always have the moral high ground over such a thoughtless person. I just can’t understand those type of people when there are so many readily available alternatives . If you were coming to my house I would go out of my way to plan food that everybody could enjoy together .
