The Definitive 'What to get a 7 year old DD for Christmas' list - pressie and stocking filler ideas needed

Earlybird · 20/10/2007 14:37

I have vowed to get organised early for Christmas this year, and that includes shopping before the hordes descend so that it might actually be an 'enjoyable' experience. Maybe I could even order some items from catalogues to avoid the holiday rugby scrum? Also, would like to get everything sorted before the 'must have' holiday items are out of stock (well, I can dream can't I?).

So let's have it ladies (and gents if there are any reading) - what are on your dd's Santa lists, and what ideas do you have? I'm looking for any/all suggestions from books to plastic tat to vaguely-educational-but-still-fun ideas to 'electronic beeping items that require batteries' and anything in between.....

Main 'big' presents
'Medium' and 'little' presents (at 7, dd still wants quantity as well as quality)
Stocking Fillers

Would appreciate any links to specific items - especially if they're mailorder. Thank you!

I do recommend it most highly Earlybird. It is French knitting so much easier to get the hang of than normal knitting which DD2 still struggles with and you can make an infinite number of teddies, all you need is knitting wool.

oh I love em those groovy Girls

Like a rag doll but smallish - maybe a bit taller than Barbie but sooo much nicer. Clothes come off (but not shoes).

Earlybird · 23/10/2007 16:03

We've just moved to America, and the 'must have' toy atm is a soft toy (all different kinds available, of course), with it's own special 'identity code' which is accessed online:

customerservice.webkinz.com/collectionscatalog/index.html

I think it's a sort of mix between tamagotchi online, club penguin and beanie babies (insofar as children collect all different species).

DD, I might add, has not asked for one.

ooooo, dd loves webkinz. Got her first one off ebay. Fortunately dh travels to States occasionally and can pick up the little bits and pieces that go with it. Be aware though that there is a huge amount of merchandise that goes with it. Also the website they work with is US based and goes down for maintenance each morning (UK time) which is highly annoying.

other than that, they are great!

If I were to get a ds lite - which games are good? Which to avoid?

well dd loves pokemon pearl. But I hate it, it turns her into some sort of hyped up monster. I'm not kidding. After 20mins she gets extremely wired and emotional. A friends dd does the same. So its extremely limited in our house. Nintendogs is good. Friend says My sims is good. I liked brain training til I got bored. Harry Potter imo was rubbish. Pippa Furnell was so-so.

foxinsocks · 26/10/2007 15:25

dd likes the tamagotchi (think it is called tamagotchi corner shop 2 or something like that) game. So far, we only have that and nintendogs.

I also got brain training and 42 all time classics for me (which you may want to get for yourself ) - it has things like checkers, chinese checkers, dots and boxes, dominoes, card games, ludo, mahjong - quite good for cold winter nights with nowt on TV!

We haven't got it but I've heard that Animal Crossing is good for this age group.

RosaTransylvania · 29/10/2007 23:04

Nintendogs is excellent. Harry Potter too difficult for this age. There is a Pony Friends one which looks good and a cat one too. DD2 is after Animal Crossing and Suduko.

Thanks for all these suggestions.

Also wondering about getting dd a pair of inline skates (is that what you call them?). What age, do you think, can they master the physical skills needed?

First serious Christmas shopping expedition planned for Thursday, so thought I'd bump for other ideas/suggestions.

Anyone have thoughts about the inline skate idea?

I bought my dd who is 7 also a pink digital camera and a fancy scrapbook and journal.

camera here for only £26.97 3.2mp

Also a mini sewing machine for £10 but not a toy one.

The high school musical and RnB singstars games.

Plus a sleepover hamper made up as someone suggested below (great idea)

Few other bits but cannot remember lol

Fennel · 15/11/2007 17:16

dd1 is 7 and has inline skates but I think the not-in-line ones are easier, dd2 (6) has those.

my dds have just written their Chrismas lists. dd2 (6) wants:
A new Socking,
Sweets,
crisps,
a new school hairband,
joke book,
big towl,
a toy Robbin.

dd1 (7) wants:
Cotton wool,
sweets,
a toy hamster.

They make me feel as though we're living in some sort of Dickensian poverty. What happened to wanting Heelies and Ipods and Bratz?

EmsMum · 15/11/2007 17:24

My DD bought herself some inline skates this year with her xmas money - she's 8 but not the most physically coordinated child. Found them easy to balance on and got going with them well, with some help from me. HTH.

EmsMum · 15/11/2007 17:26

PS - if you get inline skates, MUST have knee pads, elbow, wrist guards, helmet! If you don't have knee pads I'm sure they will go off it really quickly!

Reviving this thread for any new ideas that may be floating around now that Christmas is just around the corner....

High School Musical top trumps for stocking, £3.99 at Woolies

Earlybird · 07/12/2007 12:32

Oh yes - High School Musical.... I was shopping yesterday and somehow managed to resist the 'High School Musical' 4 main character doll set (like Barbie and Ken, but HS Musical people instead). It was one of those items I imagine dd would be thrilled with, but that I walked past....

OP posts:
ohcomeALYefaithful · 07/12/2007 17:19

Have to admit top trumps are about my limit (have an aversion to plastic tat) - although DH has bought her the karaoky (sp?) CD of it

poissonfou · 03/12/2008 19:53

am interested in this thread(dd 6.5) re. inline skates,dd got them last christmas and loved them no problems but padding essential
anyone who was thinking digital camera-do you think they will use them;have been thinking along these lines but afraid it'll get thrown in a cupboard

MusicalMummyJules · 13/12/2009 22:54

DD1 (7) has been brought (from friends, family, us and Father Christmas)

Fab-tastic sandwich maker
Fab-tastic Cookie creator
Marvins Magic Set
Sea Monkeys Watch
Crayola Glow Station
Explore It - Star theatre home planetarium (half price at argos atm)
Eyepet Playstation Game
World Zoo DS Game
Horrid Henry PC Game
Coraline DVD
Ipod speakers
Gelli Baff
Book vouchers
Treats vouchers (home-made)

I will also get her some nice pyjamas, pants and socks from Next (Monster collection)

It seems rather a lot, but it is from friends, grandparents, aunties etc and not just us.

MusicalMummyJules · 13/12/2009 22:55

Forgot to say that we got all of the stuff from either Argos, Amazon or Ebay.

Also just got an Ello kit and the scabble game from E-bay - bargains!
