What do you consider to be the main present?

Dp thinks it's the highest value item.
I think it's the item the child wants the most.

Who do you agree with?

DD has asked for a Nintendo Switch. It’s definitely her most expensive and most asked for present so definitely her main present.

I always knew what my main present was as a child as it was presented differently. My mum would put it in a giant gift bag (no matter what size the present was) and we’d open it just before she’d make Christmas lunch. That way we’d have time to get it out and play with it with my dad whilst she was busy with cooking.

The ‘main’ present is the thing you know they’re looking forward to getting, so I guess I agree with you. Because I can’t imagine a scenario in which I’d buy a really expensive ‘main’ present that they hadn’t asked for and really really want? (I mean, if all they’ve asked for is small stuff and you decide to buy a games console, say, then yes, the games console is the ‘main’ present even if they can’t look forward to it because they don’t know about it. But usually most expensive and most desired match up anyway).

Age dependent. A toddler will be happy with a cardboard box, a 14yo not so much.

I suppose it depends on how you present the present.

Does Santa only bring one main gift? If so then make it the thing they most want. Do you have anything that would benefit from being set up and left unwrapped so they see it straight away? Then that's the main present.

If the main present accompanies the other present in a sack or under the tree, then it doesn't matter

The highest value item but that is generally is the one they want most as well.

DS (5) is getting a new bike, just shy of £500 (Islabike) so it is the most expensive thing and the biggest on his list. He wants everything he see on tv though!!

The one they ask Santa for.

In our house they get to ask for one specific thing, and Santa brings surprises which are things I’ve chosen that they actually will play with.

These days it does tend to be the most expensive thing too.

I think the thing they want most too. So this year dd7's main gift is a doll she has asked for. But I've got her a tablet she hasn't asked for. She's not particularly screen motivated so has never asked for one but I want her to have one for homework apps and travel and watching movies. It costs more than the doll but it's not her main because it won't have as much wow factor as the doll.

my children dont ask for anything so I guess the highest value.

this year its theater tickets and a scooter.
