What can I give dm and dbro for supper on Christmas day?

We have out main Christmas Dinner at lunch time and will have dmil with us for this. Then have dm and dbro coming at teatime (dm is our support bubble so we aren't exceeding the household rule).

Normally we have everyone together at lunch and supper considers of leftovers and cheese and crackers. But as dm and dbro aren't coming until the evening I feel like I should offer something a bit more civilised (though nothing too heavy as they will be having a Christmas lunch as well).

To make things more complicated, I am veggie, dp has Crohns Disease and has a restrictive diet of mainly meat and white bread, dbro has autism and needs to be able to see what ingredients are in the food he can eat (so no soups or stews).

I think doing some sort of a buffet is my best bet, but not sure what dishes would work. I'd ideally like something that can be prepped in advance and isnt too much work on the day.

Any ideas?

I’d just offer your usual, I assume they will have eaten lunch elsewhere. If you wanted to make it look more special you could make up grazing boards.

This seems like the perfect occasion for the MN naice ham, along with the usual bits and pieces and have a few sweet things there.

Crackers and cheese, ham, salad, nice bread, olives, pickles, juicy big tomatoes, M&S picky bits and some trifle with squirty cream and cold custard on standby in the fridge for afters.

Same as always.

SionnachRua · 30/11/2020 06:39

I agree with the people saying that they'll be stuffed. I'd put out bits to nibble on. Possibly stuff for turkey sandwiches too.

SionnachRua · 30/11/2020 06:42

Or nut roast sandwiches or whatever it is you're having Grin You get the point I'm sure.

Buffet - cold meats, salad, frozen hors d'oervres

PTW1234 · 30/11/2020 06:54

Perfect opportunity to raid the M&S party food selection Wink

You could do what you always do, but with a centerpiece.

Ideas: quiche (you can see what's in that) can be veggie, can be made in advance. Wellington, spinakopita, a brie and cranberry tart.

Or, a curve ball. What you always do plus a fondue to dip it all in!

VestaTilley · 30/11/2020 10:47

I’d do a nice tea of buffet food and Christmas cake - sausage rolls, turkey sandwiches, ham sandwiches, Yule log, pickles, cheeses, grapes, salad and crackers. Cold pigs in blankets with cranberry sauce to dip.

That way DBro can see everything clearly, it’s still fun festive food, but it’s not loads of extra work and prep. Maybe some jacket potatoes if you want to offer something hot too.

helloxhristmas · 30/11/2020 10:50

I wouldn't be doing another meal after a Christmas lunch it won't get eaten.

Get some charcuterie and cheese, make it look pretty!

Stompythedinosaur · 30/11/2020 12:54

Thanks everyone. Really good idea to do leftovers with a few extra buffet bits (obviously naice ham) and just lay it out a bit more nicely.

We do cheeses, sliced roast ham, grapes, figs, dates, quince jelly, crackers, bread, nuts, chocolates and lashings of port!

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 30/11/2020 13:05

Oh and Christmas cake!

mama3bears · 30/11/2020 13:08

Jacket potato's with a choice of filling and some cold meats (obviously including turkey!) and salad would be easy

JaniceSopranoJr · 30/11/2020 13:30

Cheese/pate/bread/olives.

draughtycatflap · 30/11/2020 13:35

What’s supper? Is it like posh munchies? We always get one of those luvely jubbly Iceland platters and help ourselves in the lounge.

Lollypop701 · 30/11/2020 13:38

Do extra roasties ... people always pick at them later on (I like them cold tbh but either way winner!)

helloxhristmas · 30/11/2020 16:36

I'm a greedy pig and I can't imagine eating a jacket potato after a roast lunch 😂

dkdkfhfkdsl · 30/11/2020 19:54

I always do loads of extra pigs in blankets and have them cold with (warm) bread sauce as part of a buffet. Large pork pie? Turkey sandwiches, obvs!

Also, fruit kebabs went down well last year (melon, grapes, strawberries, kiwi etc on a kebab stick).

Hohomerryxmas · 02/12/2020 06:53

We never cook anything of christmas night and usually have Turkey sandwiches and some cheese and pickles and a tub of chocolate. Its all left on the table for anyone who is actually still hungry.

UndertheCedartree · 02/12/2020 10:37

If they've already had Christmas lunch they probably won't want much if anything so a slice of Christmas cake or a mince pie will suffice. But if you want more I'd do a boxing day style buffet that you can then use for the next day too.

Cold meat, salad, nice bread, canapes, sausage rolls, cheese board and biscuits, crudites, olives, dips, pickles, chutney, grapes, dates. Then Christmas cake, mince pies, Yule log, stollen.
