Board games for 3 year old??

I'm at a loss , I don't want any of the orchard games , we've got loads of those and she's not interested ! I've recently taken down the Gone Fishing game ( fishes twirl around and you have to catch the fish with the open mouth with a hook), and dd IS OBSESSED!!! She's turned 3 in July and is quite a bit behind with her speech as well.

Any similarly fun games that your three year old loves/loved would be hugely appreciated as it keeps her busy when the rest of us are eyeball deep in cheating at monopoly .

My DS aged 3 played elefun at a friends house before Covid and he loved it!! So I would highly recommend that, we have have bought a frozen 2 version that is a very similar premise (as he is obsessed) we got it on sale at the works for £10. I’m not sure if the frozen one in particular is any good as we haven’t used it yet.
But worth having a look at both online!

Oo or hungry hippos aswell!

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 30/11/2020 00:11

This game called Zingo was popular with mine at that age. Especially as the tiles are in a kind of little machine that you pull forward and one pops out. Then you have to see if you have that symbol/picture on your card. www.amazon.co.uk/ThinkFun-Zingo-Bingo-Pre-Readers-Readers/dp/B00006408Q?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

My son likes giggle wiggle

Following as equally stuck

Poppystars · 30/11/2020 00:25

Mine likes the Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles game. Well made.

Another vote for Hungry Hippos. Kerplunk was playable and popular at that age too, although it takes a while to set up between each game. Not a board game, but we taught DDs Uno over the summer. DD2 was 3-nearly-4 the first time we got it out, but got the hang of it pretty quickly. 3D snakes and ladders and Guess Who were also suitable at 3yo.

BenoneBeauty · 30/11/2020 00:30

Agree with Elefun & hungry hippos. I'd also stay Frustration is good - at that age we didn't follow the full rules but my 3yr old loved it & it's simple & you can't lose the dice! We just took turns moving round the board - now they're older & we play it properly, it's great fun & can last a long time!

BenoneBeauty · 30/11/2020 00:31

Snap & Pairs are also good fun for that age.

Hisss by Gameright. Loved by my son from age 3.
You take turns turning over cards, adding the pieces to the snakes in play matched by colour. If you add the piece, either a head or tail, that completes the snake you win it.
Doesn’t sound so fun written down but a great game.
Pengoloo by Blue Orange was also popular. Beautiful wooden pieces and a good one for memory and concentration.

Funny Bunny by Ravensburger

Dobble is a great game - we were introduced to it by accident when DD was about 3 - the shoe shop where we got her feet measured was giving away mini 'Geox' promotion sets - really random!! We have couple of different versions now and they are great fun even for the adults.

Another game maker that we have found really good quality (if you have enough of orchard toys) is Janod - Very much a European brand - we have the waterlily challenge, poulettes (the chicken game), acrobats, crazy sticks and happy buzzz.

Stompythedinosaur · 30/11/2020 01:45

Dobble kids can be played at 3. My kids also liked funny bunny, hungry hippos, kerplunk and connect 4.

Wow thanks everyone, lots of recommendations to look up and see which ones would be a good fit for dd Smile keep the suggestions coming x

Memory games and the sound bingo games (like Galt Soundtracks) are good. I had this one and loved the pictures! Children have great memories and can hold their own even at an early age. If you like his artwork, Charlie Harper has a great memory game.

The Lawrence King Bird/Bug/Dog/Cat bingo games are also very popular with children at our school.

My ds has just turned 4 and also has delayed speech,

We have got
Hungry Hippos
Snakes and Ladder
More playing cards because he loves snap .
I’ve bought bingo for our Xmas eve game with the idea that he will be the bingo caller

TheVanguardSix · 30/11/2020 07:35

Candyland
Snap Dragon is great fun
Shopping List by Orchard Toys is great (in fact, their range of games are wonderful for 3-4 year olds)

reluctantbrit · 30/11/2020 08:51

Memory
Ludo - you may need to play as teams and bend the rules a bit but it is a great game to grow into.
Bingo
Uno - there are several younger children versions around
Snakes and Ladders
Snap

This was popular when mine were small www.amazon.co.uk/Rocket-Games-ROC391-Rockets-Floundering/dp/B001HN6Q5C?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

ramblingsonthego · 30/11/2020 13:16

Baa baa bubbles
Hungry hippos
Jenga
Tumbling monkeys

These are all faves of my 3.5 year old.

Tumbleweed101 · 30/11/2020 19:58

A lot of the Haba games are quite good for that age group. They quite enjoy 'first orchard' at nursery but there is a similar game for slightly older children if your child is nearer 4 than 3.

MrsLJ2014 · 30/11/2020 20:37

Humpty's Wall game

TenShortStories · 30/11/2020 20:40

Busy Town Eye Found It.

It's also collaborative so no issues with winning/not winning.

Cotswoldmama · 30/11/2020 20:48

Greedy granny is great fun my mum has it and now she's known as greedy granny nanna!

Equimum · 30/11/2020 21:01
