What types of art does she prefer?
If it helps this is the GCSE "list of things it would be useful to have" that my DC's school sent out (DD is specialising in Fine Art and Textiles)

 A small pack of acrylic paints
 A tin or small pack of watercolour paints
 A selection of paint brushes
 A 2B and 4B sketching pencil
 A pack of oil pastels
 A pack of good quality colour pencils (these could be watercolour pencils)
 A rubber
 A sharpener
 A black fine liner pen
In addition, for textiles
 A medium embroidery hoop (8” to 12” approx.)
 A selection of embroidery needles
 A selection of embroidery threads

... so DD would be happy to have any of these as they would all get used, but because she particularly enjoys painting, she'd probably prefer an art set containing acrylic paints and a variety of brushes e.g. www.amazon.co.uk/Acrylic-Paint-Premium-Artist-Brushes/dp/B077Z6XLR9?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 (sorry, that's more than £20 - but to give you an idea).
She is also obsessed with highlighers (particularly pastel highlighters) and notebooks. If you bought her a pack of highlighters, a pack of fine liners and a notebook, again she would really appreciate it.

Dd1 loves Posca (?) markers, I think with cyber Monday deals going around you might be able to pick up one of the smaller packs. Or even one of the larger ones depending on colours!

Dd17 is very arty and has just started ‘paint pouring’ technique. She’s made some lovely pieces. You can pick sets up in your budget and can be added to if your niece enjoys it.

Cass Art is great for art supplies, then have a good sale on at the moment and a section for gifts under £25. I’d look on their website:

Copex skin colour markers, bleed proof paper, fine liners, refillable pencils (0.7 and 2.0)

Try bullet journals from Papier they're great to start with, and you can personalise the cover which is always a nice touch. Here's £10 off you first order: fbuy.me/p9MTm

What a lovely gift idea! I'm a part time artist (painter & illustrator) & kids are very arty. Good materials are so, so important - and eye wateringly expensive.
Don't be tempted to get anything from The Works, some of the big kits look impressive & really good value but the pigments are so weak and paper quality is very poor. It makes me sad when a young person spends lots of time creating a lovely piece of art on bad paper.
My kids' favourite stuff are Towmbow dual brush markers and Seawhite sketch books.
And prismacolor colored pencils are fantastic.

DC 13 has a massive case of Staedtler coloured pencils.

P.S: Agree with PP Cassart is good, that gift selection in the link above is lovely!

TheTinsellyLovelinessOfDemons · 14/12/2020 16:34

DC3 has suggested Copic.

The works do a bumper acrylic painting set that's good value at £10, add a book on acrylic painting, that will bring you to about your budget. (This is what my DD15 asked for, also doing GCSE art).

Paint pouring sets look quite fun.
There are some nice resin art starter sets on Etsy, cost a little more but a nice gift.

Just seen the other comment on the works. Blush
It's always been ok for DD, means she can try out new things, without committing lots of money in something she might not enjoy. Though I can clearly agree that it's not the highest quality for a serious artist. Blush

My daughter is doing gcse art and is very particular about her materials. She'd much prefer a gift certificate to an art shop than have someone guess what she needs. She loves wandering around looking at this pen or that, and has her preferred brands.

Piratedoor · 14/12/2020 20:51

I'd be tempted to get like a hobby craft gift card or even amazon, it would be difficult to know what she has or needs
