For any teachers on here, could you help me out with what you would like to receive as a Christmas gift from your pupil? I assume you end up with all kinds of things so I would really like to get something that isn’t tat. I will avoid anything with my child’s name on it.

Parents, are you still gifting your child’s teachers this year? Could you hit me up with some ideas of what you will be buying.

My child’s teacher has been incredible, not just through covid so I would really like to gift something nice but I am on a budget so inexpensive would be ideal.

OP posts:

I’m a teacher and love the typical things: chocolates, wine, candles.

For my three children’s teachers this year I’ve got them a luxury hot chocolate set- the ones you mix into milk that have all the bits with them.

I’d love to receive something like that.
(Not a mug though- we have so many!)

And another one I always love: socks.

lockedownloretta · 29/11/2020 15:50

this is so incredibly kind of you. wine is always my favourite or chocolate but we have been told no gifts this year either way-by management i mean.

Gellert · 29/11/2020 15:52

Never wine! A positive email to the head and a nice card goes down well too.

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/11/2020 15:54

We always gave a couple of paperback books that we thought they might enjoy.

Hayeahnobut · 29/11/2020 15:58

Not a teacher, but those I know also run a holiday dinners club and would appreciate a donation to the charity rather than gifts. Not in cash, just a little card saying you've made a donation (not the amount).

FlibbertyGiblets · 29/11/2020 15:58

OMG at the teachers here. OP has alluded to a tight budget, why the Jeff are you not saying we would love a card saying how you helped young Timothy to understand long division or how Ella has developed a love of haiku after Japan Week.
Not give a list of presents you want.
Fgs.

TicTacTwo · 29/11/2020 16:02

How old is your child? Mine is normally a daydreamer but surprisingly picked up on things like the teachers favourite chocolate and what kind of wine she drinks.

Get a grip. OP asked for advice because she wants to buy something Hmm
NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 29/11/2020 18:09

Card and email to head is so much appreciated. Otherwise anything from children is so sweet (except mugs- my cupboards are full) Don’t forget the TA, they often work more with your child closely than the class teacher.

LikeSilver · 29/11/2020 18:13

I get them a Costa gift card.

IHeartKingThistle · 29/11/2020 18:15

Yy to card and email to Head! Xx

PurpleDaisies · 29/11/2020 18:17

No present please, nice card with a nice message instead.

Definitely no booze, chocolate, candles, mugs, key rings, bath stuff...

Lifeispassingby · 29/11/2020 18:18

I would avoid chocolates tbh DH and I end up with so much we usually donate lots of it to the food bank. something personalised is usually appreciated such as a photo frame with a nice quote picture in or something like that (doesn’t need to be expensive btw)

RaraRachael · 29/11/2020 18:24

A card with a nice message is always nice - I've kept all the ones I've received over the course of my long career and I like to read them and remember the pupils who are grown up with kids of their own now.
Don't assume all teachers drink wine - I always feel guilty that somebody has spent money on something I've just had to put into the next raffle.

actiongirl1978 · 29/11/2020 18:25

I checked, all gifts def allowed at our school this year.

So the usual class cash collection and then I give a bottle of c
Cremant for each main teacher (prep school so I do form, maths, English teachers).

Ditto for house master and form teacher at secondary.

I'm guessing because she asked for gift suggestions. 🙄
Toastybutt · 29/11/2020 18:31

Card with a nice message is always my favourite. It’s lovely of people but it makes me embarrassed Blush. I do enjoy my job and I know most of my parents can ill afford extra gifts.
Email to the head extra fab.

Scarby9 · 29/11/2020 18:35

A card with a message. Or two messages, if you teally want to push the boat out - one from your child and one from you. Genuinely the best gift.
If you ate desperate to give something else, thrn gluesticks please.

Pumpertrumper · 29/11/2020 18:36

‘On a budget’ is always so hard as so variable on MN. I would take it to mean a couple of £ per teacher Max.

Pound shop/ B&M kinda place:

  • Thornton’s chocolates small bag
  • mini Lindt box
  • Box of Maltesers
  • A sharing pouch of literally any chocolate/sweet
  • small milk tray
  • Cheap candle
  • hot choc blocks with spoon stuck in
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/11/2020 18:36

Definitely ask your child, it's surprising what little things some of them pick up on!

Other than that, there's no 'guaranteed winning gift' Teachers are just people too, all with very different tastes. Damn them!! 🤣

If it was me I'd far rather have a card that the child has willingly written in & a note from the parent IF there's something they want to say.

Depends on your budget, but how about a tree decoration?

Nice notebook?

CousinLucy · 29/11/2020 18:37

A personalised Christmas card with a few sentences about why I'm appreciated. I would be made up with that. My children's primary are going foodbank donations this year in lieu of teacher presents.

yellowcatss · 29/11/2020 18:38

i dont get teachers anything their paid after all!

Smellbellina · 29/11/2020 18:41

*they’re

SummerHouse · 29/11/2020 18:42

We gave painted pebbles at the end of last year. They were personal, effort was made and the teachers could just chuck them in the garden. Or I would find a good quote relevant to the teacher and get DC to write it out fancy. The teacher could then put it in recycling or in a frame as they wish.

UndertheCedartree · 29/11/2020 18:43

I have got my DD's class teacher and pastoral care teacher both a Cath Kidston hand cream - thought it would help with all the handwashing. They have said the DC can't give out cards this year so hoping I can still give the presents. My DD normally makes a card for her teacher(s) too.
