I have 3 dc aged 14, 11 and 8 and I would some ideas for a few joints gifts for them. They will have individual gifts also under the tree but their main present is the new 2020 iPad pro each. I want to wrap the 3 ipads individually and put them in a box, wrap that box and place it inside another box with a joint gift in, then that in a bigger box with joint gift etc etc up to about 5 or 6 layers but willing to have more layers if ideas are good. I have a gingerbread house construction kit so far for one layer so all ideas welcome.

I've got some baking/cake decorating bits as a joint present.

Board/card game.

Trudee · 28/11/2020 14:54

How about a jigsaw?

Ohdoleavemealone · 28/11/2020 15:12

We have got monopoly as a family gift to play xmas day.

Juk3 · 28/11/2020 16:22

Baking set is a good idea to keep them occupied. We have Monopoly and the cheats edition of Monopoly already but another board game is idea, maybe something like The Game Of Life.

we have Carcassonne with lots of extensions, ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens, Scotland Yard, Saboteur and Harry Potter Scrabble awaiting. They very much wanted board games. I may have overdone it. However, it could come in handy if we have another lockdown.

I might present them with a new game each day between Xmas and new year!

Yes we did @OnlyFoolsnMothers the older two year 7 & 10 have had a few 2 week self isolation periods from school, the normal timetable is online on teams and our tech is not up to it. They have plenty of other gifts to go with it so they haven't missed out by getting the Ipads.

HmmI don’t think they’ve missed out, I think Jesus how much money do you have/ can’t kids share nowadays

Juk3 · 28/11/2020 19:35

I ordered the Sharpie set and a note book each from WHSmith and looking at the board game recommendations now.

My cheapo laptop runs teams brilliantly...

Flabbergasted that you are getting them so much more...that would be a one off very special gift in my house

I don't think the pp was insinuating your dc were hard done by...quite the opposite actually

Juk3 · 28/11/2020 19:52

@formerbabe we don't have a laptop or computer and the kids only have the Amazon Fire kids version tablets which we bought when our youngest was 2 for a long flight so 6 years ago. My year 10 and year 7 have both complained their current tablets don't have the apps needed for Satchel and the other portals the school is using, to honest it is probably very over due for our eldest as she has started GCSE work. One to share wouldn't work really as they are currently both off together at the minute as both their bubbles have positive cases. Like most people we have had 2 abroard holidays cancelled and haven't done other days out or trips so we have extra money to buy the Ipads and keyboard attachments for school. I know we are lucky that dh still has his job and our income hasn't changed due to covid.

Wow, Mumsnet is definitely a place of extremes at times!

Hophop26 · 28/11/2020 20:23

It’s all relative and just money being spent in different ways - the iPads are educational and there’s a need for them, Christmas is an opportune time to get them and by gifting them at Christmas then it being a one-off is more apparent to the children. Many people in the same situation (able and willing to buy them for a very valid reason) would hand them over now/during lockdown as and when they have been needed and deal with Christmas separately.

I spend more than the cost of a new iPad on childcare each month and that’s with one at school, that cost doesn’t exist for many older children in the same way

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/11/2020 20:35

It’s all relative no it isn’t, expensive is expensive. To think only kids with £800 individual 2020 iPad Pro’s can do remote learning is delusional. As delusional as people who consider the internet a luxury and not a necessity. Like anothe poster said MN the home of extremes!

Completely agree
AldiAisleofCrap · 28/11/2020 20:42

Laptops or chrome books are far better for remote learning/GCSE work anyway.

sunniest · 28/11/2020 20:45

Not on the high street do nice marshmallow toasting gift sets that I sometimes give as family gifts and they are always well received by children those ages.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/11/2020 20:48

Even if I was a millionaire my child’s first care wouldn’t be a porsche.

Juk3 · 28/11/2020 20:59

@OnlyFoolsnMothers would you please give it a rest we all get the point you don't approve of my choice off gifts for my children.

JellyBellies · 28/11/2020 21:39

As you are buying them for school work @Juk3are you sure an ipad will cover what they need?

Both of mine use a computer/laptop which has word, PowerPoint etc on it.
