What do I want for Xmas?

Was talking about Christmas with dd10 and she was saying about her list and what she wants, then I got a bit upset as my mum passed away recently and I said that I won't be getting anything as I've got no one to buy me anything now. So dd went off and told my dad that she is going to help him order stuff online for me. But she wants me to tell her what I want.
I don't know what I want, my mum always brought me surprise gifts. What should I ask for?

Sorry about your loss.

Some suggestions..

Dressing gown
Perfume
Hair dryer brush
New handbag

Really depends what kind of thing you like?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 28/11/2020 09:16

Flowers I’m sorry for your loss.

Things I like to receive are champagne (half bottles so just for me), a good candle (diptique), cashmere gloves as mine end up moth eaten and manky. I’m getting the new Nigella cookbook (can’t wait), there is a collection of Jilly Cooper old articles in a book that should be a light relief read. Nice bubble bath. A good novel and chocolates and time to curl up with them. Good waking socks as my feet get cold. I appreciate some of these are generic, but if they know what flavour / type / scent you like they can be very personal. I hope you get some lovely things and have a wonderful Christmas.

You have a kind daughter.

TheChosenTwo · 28/11/2020 09:27

What a lovely heart your daughter has, you’ve raised her to have empathy and compassion.
I’d maybe suggest some books and ask her to choose so it’s still kind of a surprise for you (No idea of a budget but books are a safe bet), candles and some nice bath stuff.
Give options in each category and make it clear that they can choose something from each and that you’re not expecting everything.
Depending on your list you could get something from each category on there for under £15 or spend hundreds.
Although these may not be things you would appreciate, I love books, always have candles lit around the house and have long daily baths so these are things I buy myself often and would use.
Sorry for your loss Flowers

You have a very sweet DD.

How about a nice photo frame so you could pop a picture in it of the three of you (I'm a bit sentimental like that but understand others might not be!)
Some nice foods
Candle
Dressing gown
Scarf
Jewellery - Lisa angel have some lovely well priced bits

I'm sorry for your loss.

mdh2020 · 28/11/2020 09:30

A nice set of smellies so you can treat yourself to a home spa.
A good scarf.
A cuddly toy.
When my GD asked what I would like one year, I asked her to draw me a picture which I framed and hung on the wall. Your DD could do the same.
What books do you want to read?

Spanielsanddaughters · 28/11/2020 09:31

How about asking for some jewellery, specify what metal and basic style and say you’d like her to chose the specific item.
She’s been lovely considering your feelings, maybe it would be a nice item you can then both enjoy wearing over the years.

Thank you all. My mind had just come to a blank! I've been so busy trying to sort everything out that I'm not with it at the moment at all

She really is a sweetheart- she's so kind hearted.

I actually just ordered myself a new dressing gown - oops! It's the only thing I need at the moment as mine is 25 years old!

I've just seen that kindles are in special offer- so I might ask for one of those. I tried making a wish list on Amazon but all I could think of is a book and a hairbrush.

A kindle is a great idea, plus a cover in a funky colour.

What about some really good quality soaps, cashmere or silk scarf, cashmere bed socks, nice pair of cozy slippers to go with the new dressing gown, new wellies, good quality marshmallows- you can get these from Amazon.

Lovemusic33 · 28/11/2020 14:00

My dd has ordered me some ear warmers 🤣, I walk a lot and hate getting cold ears.

I buy myself a few gifts as I don’t have anyone else to buy for me (first year dd has bought me a gift), so far I have bought....

Some flowery fake Dr Martens from Etsy
A new diary
Glasses case
Slippers
Hotel chocolates
Hemp face cream
Banana shampoo
A funny mug

Most of those things will go in my stocking as the dc’s (now teenagers) like me to have a stocking to open with them.

Chameleon2003 · 28/11/2020 17:54

I'm asking for:
A tote bag from One Hundred Stars
Recycled cashmere fingerless gloves from Turtle Doves
A John Lewis version of a le Creuset
Bobbi Brown face cream

squeekums · 28/11/2020 18:02

A photo album and gift card to a place that prints of photos so you and dd can make an album of you ,her and your mum

loutypips · 30/11/2020 13:31

I've just ordered 5 mystery boxes from glossybox (a bargain £25!) and so may let her wrap what's in those too for Xmas.

Some really lovely ideas - she's a bit too young just yet to navigate ordering photos and sorting them out - I'd end up with loads of selfies of her! I've been going through all the photos and apart from two or three there are none of the three of us together or or any recent ones of my dad and mum and I. Heartbroken isn't the word.

I've asked my own DC for a new shower hat (they will of course get a comedy one) and a really good pencil sharpener. I want / need both and they''ll have fun picking them out.And can afford them! If you can think of something little that she can choose and buy all by herself, she will probably get a big kick out of it. x
