Small gifts for Belorussian kids - suggestions?

Hello.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm filling a couple of shoeboxes with Christmas goodies for Belorussian children affected by the Chernobyl disaster, one for a girl, one for a boy, aged 6-7 years.

However, I'm not a mum, and don't really know what children of this age would like. Do you have any suggestions? Gifts would need to be small, inexpensive and not need batteries or instructions.

Many thanks.

and maybe hair bobbles and clips and things - I know they're not toys, but little girls love playing with their hair

TwigorTreat · 19/10/2007 18:13

glitter glues
colouring pens
agree with hawkins bazaar toys

TwigorTreat · 19/10/2007 18:13

I'd avoid hair ornaments though, just in case

GreatHauntieWurly · 19/10/2007 18:13

small hairbrush / comb??

Suerock · 19/10/2007 18:15

Great ideas - thank you so much. It's such a long time since I was that age I had quite forgotten lego, colouring books and marbles! But I'm not sure where would be a good place to buy such things - I had a walk round Woolies at lunchtime and everything seemed to be huge toys in enormous boxes.

BTW What is Hawkins Bazaar? (Sorry to be ignorant.)

the one we do suggests toiletries, as well as all the things you've listed here, so we include a childs toothbrush and toothpaste, fun flannel/sponge, novelty soap etc

Suerock · 20/10/2007 10:54

Thanks for all your suggestions - off to town now to do some shopping!
