Do you receive a christmas stocking?

Just that really. As a family we do a secret santa for the five adults but I still do a christmas stocking for my DH, 2xDD and SIL. Last time I had one I was about 9 years old , Thats 51 years ago! This year I have been musing over the fact that it would be lovely just once to have a stocking as a nice surprise. I know it won't happen and I do get a lot of pleasure choosing thoughtful little stocking fillers for everyone, . Just wondering if I am being silly.

I decided last Christmas that i was the one sorting all the gifts for everyone else and nothing for me so i made a list of 12 things i would really like this Christmas (Molton Brown toiletries, Richard Osman's new book etc) and made a commitment to buy myself one thing a month, wrap it up and put it away. Im really looking forward to Christmas now!!

@Tana433 - what a brilliant idea. I’m going to copy that next year!

mbosnz · 29/11/2020 15:00

Everyone in this house gets a stocking, including the cat. If we have people staying with us, we do them a stocking too. My MIL and BIL's faces the year they stayed with us were an absolute picture! DH does mine, I do his, and we both do the girls. And the cat.

I seem to have an allergy to the post office. So posting stuff is very much DH's job. I'm happy to plan the gifts, buy the gifts, wrap the gifts, but any posting - nope.

I have had a Christmas stocking every one of my 76 years. Every one in the family has one.

I challenged my mum today about the mugging off, her excuse was that I am allergic to chocolate and also for 20 years lived with a man who could have done me a stocking. I reminded her of my lack of man, but she just shrugged at me! The cheek!

CatsGoPurrrr · 29/11/2020 21:07

@Tana433 I love that idea! Single mum here and am stealing that for next year.

Redwinestillfine · 29/11/2020 21:17

No but I would love one! I always get one when I am at my parents for Christmas although they live far away now so we haven't been for the holidays for a few years. I am doing one for DH this year.

Tana433 · 29/11/2020 21:54

@CatsGoPurrrr and @littlestpogo please copy away! Im very excited about it i must admit! Altogether i probably spent about £120 some things were more expensive than others but evened itself out over the year. The Molton Brown toiletries is got in the Black Friday sale from John Lewis so that saved a bit. Also i get £50 from my parents usually so i'll just use that to offset the cost and tell them some of the things were from them!

littlestpogo · 29/11/2020 22:04

@Tana433 - this makes me sound very sad but I’m genuinely quite excited about it! I’m also a single parent and it would be lovely to have something to open for a change. Plus I possibly will have forgotten the things I bought at the start. And yes getting some smellies in the jan sale is also a good idea.

I hope you have a lovely time opening it Smile

I adore stockings! Probably my favourite bit. My parents did them for us growing up (divorced so 2) but it stopped at 21. When I got together with DH at 28 one of my immediate thoughts was 'yay, I get a stocking again!'

We do one for each other. Even in years when we have been saving so sacked off main presents, we have always done a stocking. I an 35 now and will expect one every year until I die!

I hope your DH steps up and you get a lovely stocking Christmas morning!

I think it's really crappy that your DH opens one each year and still doesn't do one or you. DH and I didn't used to do them, but one year I said I'd really like one and can we do them instead of other presents. We now do both. The first year he filled mine full of chocolate and nothing else, the next couple of years he did better when I specified not just chocolate, last year was all edibles. This year I've helpfully added loads of small bits on my Amazon wishlist and suggested he look there if he is stuck for stocking ideas which he is greatful for. Maybe you could do the same? Or a Pinterest board.
