Today I made a 100+ mile round trip to collect a cushion for ds1 Blush
The colour I wanted wasn't available in my local store so I drove for over 3hrs to get the right one as delivery wasn't available.
He hasn't asked for it but I know he'll love it and I couldn't forget about it once I'd seen it.
Ridiculous I know but it is in the name of Christmas. Anyone else as daft as me? Confused

My daughter went to see father Christmas 2 days before Christmas, fully prepped. We had just got the puppy they desperately wanted and begged for so wanted no presents just dog toys...until she gets in front of the big man and asked for a nutcracker...Santa jokes about what a strange present and she must love nuts. She was quiet. Drive home she sobbed as she meant a nut cracker doll and thought Santa would bring an actual nut cracker tool!
This was about 10 years back, they weren't everywhere. I sourced one from the London Royal Ballet, couldn't get it posted in time so begged people in our London office to collect it. One person agreed on Christmas eve, got the doll but wasn't going to make it back in time for the driver who went between the offices and could bring it back. Said driver knew about the doll mission, faffed and messed about did everything to delay leaving for half an hour. This resulted in one person in the post room at my site having to stay open until he got there, all so my daughter could get a bloody nutcracker doll.
Every year since then we've bought one and whilst I don't work at the same place anymore I loved just how amazing my colleagues were to help me get this doll.
Best bit - she wasn't interested, didn't like it, thought it would be a cuddly doll 😂😂😂

Loving these stories, glad I'm not the only one dedicated to the magic of Christmas. The people going the extra mile for children they don't know are amazing

The year some fancy schmanzy games console came out I was on holiday in UAE. The thing was like gold dust at home and my brother was despairing as his kids, like every other kid in the country, wanted one. AuntieSlattern to the rescue.

I had a lovely mumsnetter make me some toys for my daughters (probably about 8/9 years ago now), my youngest has ASD and was mad about mooshy monsters but they had only just come to the uk and could only get the small plastic figures here, it was the only thing dd really wanted so I paid to get someone in here to make them, they were amazing and my DD’s loved them for many years. If the lady who made them is reading this “thank you” Flowers

when my oldest ds (now 22!) was 3 or 4 we were chatitng on Christmas eve morning. Asked him was he excited about father christmas coming. Oh yes, he replied - he is bringing me a Thomas the Tank engine blanket. He was so excited by this idea, and kept going about it.He had never, ever mentioned this before!! I then spent a paniced afternoon trailing round the shops near and far to locate a Thomas Blanket. Managed to get one and he actually loved it, barely looked at any of his other presents,(that I had spent weeks choosing and buying)and spent all day hugging this blanket!

No, I would not do that, sorry!

I'd do something long and drawn out (but still not 3hr round trip like) for a much wanted main present but not for a cushion.

I would definitely do this. I’m like you. Can’t forget it once I’ve seen it. I know someone who travelled from West Yorkshire to Birmingham to pick up the new X Box for her son for Christmas. Only one she could find. Next day thankfully I was able to order one to be delivered through Game I won’t relax until it’s here though and I definitely won’t tell her.

Thus proving that what your friend did was pointless! It was well reported that more stock was coming too. Bonkers.

I take it you are not in the uk @Trudee ?

Well at the moment I will say the craziest thing I am doing is choosing to decorate my house and trees for Christmas with my 5yo, 3yo and 10 month old instead of doing it while they are asleep so they get to take part in the excitement Hmm

It's 2pm and we have done one small tree so far.. 😅😭😅

One year my dad got a call on Boxing Day to go to Scotland for a work emergency (we are in the midlands), I was probably about 7 at the time. He flew up a day or two later and I was gutted he wasn’t going to be home for NYE, usually he was off work all the way through till January, so I really missed him although I was used to him being away regularly the rest of the year. At about 11pm on NYE there was a knock on the door and he appeared!! He hated driving to and from Scotland and usually flew, and even at 7 I knew it was a big deal that he’d done it. They’d needed some equipment bringing back and he could have delegated it to someone else to do, but he took it so he could come home and see me. By 9am on NYD he was on his way back. That was the better part of 30 years ago and I still remember vividly how happy it made me.

I’d like to think that DD was equally appreciative of me driving 150 miles last year to collect the last rocking horse in the design I wanted from Mamas and Papas after the one I’d ordered went missing from the courier, but given it was her first xmas I doubt it! 😂
