Men: what to buy them?

I've got my DH 1 gift. No idea what else to get him, especially little stocking filler type bits? Finding it difficult with the shops being shut!

What brilliant things have you brought the man in your life?

OP posts:

If you scroll through the Christmas board, you'll see quite a few threads about presents for men, maybe worth a look (not saying you shouldn't start another one, just that if people have posted on other threads they might not post again).

Cantthinkofausename · 27/11/2020 16:21

Philips perfect draft beer machine

JustSay · 27/11/2020 18:43

Fattening food and socks.

andpeggy1 · 27/11/2020 18:54

There's the WHOLE internet you can buy from. Surely you know what he likes and dislikes, any interests or hobbies. Get him things around that

notenoughgintonight · 27/11/2020 19:10

Stocking fillers wise I've bought DP...

Marmite popcorn
Lindt balls
Fudge from fudge hog
Marmite lynx africa deodorant and wash (he likes marmite so this is a joke one!)
Beard comb
Beard balm
Car air freshener
Socks specific to the car he has
Massage oil
Foot mask
Will probably add more chocolate and maybe some different alcohol minis

Malin52 · 27/11/2020 19:22

I find men are a homogenous group with exactly the same likes and dislikes so they are very easy to buy for.

Seriously OP you must know his likes and dis likes?

For example all the items @notenoughgintonight has listed, my DH would be Confused. None of them are his thing and he'd see them as unnecessary clutter. I know he'd like books, interesting alcohol and some new pants though.

Having said that we haven't bought gifts for each other for about 10 years now. Wasteful and Don't see the point!

If only it was that easy. What an unpleasant post.
ktsc89 · 27/11/2020 22:04

I'm finding it difficult too OP. Notwithstanding they I know his likes and dislikes, a few ideas he has bought himself and others are ideas I've given my parents to get him!

Ideas that have proved popular though - if he likes whisky, whisky stones and glasses. A wallet (I got an aspinal one so a bit nicer then the usual for him, my DP is a builder so always has a grubby wallet as a back up!), a coat he likes (a different colour but his favourite style).

CurbsideProphet · 27/11/2020 22:36

@ItsStartingToFeelLikeChristmas
I don't know why some posters felt the need to pick at your polite request for some ideas. For my DH I've bought :
New tablet (his main present)
Fridge magnets with quotes he will appreciate
New pyjamas (not expensive, but he will like them)
Nice toiletries as a treat

Neither of us like random tat that we need to find a home for, so we go for things that will be used etc. An upgrade on what we would buy for ourselves.

newnewnewbuild · 27/11/2020 22:44

I just wrote out the list of things I've bought for my husband and it honestly looks like a list someone could have put together for their 10 year old son Grin

My DH is quiet geeky, loves gaming and likes all things gardening. He also love whiskey, wine and loves a bit of self care so likes bath products.

So with that in mind I've got him:

A tshirt with a gaming character on the front
Small lego character
Lush bath bombs (he requested them specifically)
Face scrubber from tooletries
Mugs with designs relating to his hobby
A little pokemon keepsake
A board game for us to play on xmas day
A couple of specific bits relating to a hobby to do with gardening
Those chocolates with alcohol liquer in them

Doryhunky · 27/11/2020 22:49

I have a man to buy for who is loaded and has everything he could want. No point in booze or food as he is a gourmet.

copperoliver · 27/11/2020 23:15

Socks
Pants.
Aftershave.
Deodorant & body wash.
T. Shirts.
Trainers.
Sweets & Chocolate.

Literallynoidea · 27/11/2020 23:20

Socks
A book or two
Nice ham
Pants
Sharp kitchen knives - the cool Japanese ones

I dunno. Men are a nightmare

LizzieMacQueen · 27/11/2020 23:39

A board game, one for 2 people so you can play together.

Richard Osman's novel.

Nutcracker & nuts.

Welly socks.

IHTC · 28/11/2020 04:12

I feel your pain! My husband is so hard to buy for; doesn't really have any hobbies. Every year, it gets harder.

So far I've bought:

  • A new watch
  • An xbox game (remastered game from his childhood)
  • Darkmilk selection box
  • Bottle of booze

Toying with the idea of buying him a pressure washer but to be honest, I have absolutely no idea what's what in that field. Worried I'll buy a load of crap!

Nitflux · 28/11/2020 04:22

Thanks for this thread - some great ideas for my DH! Moving next year (hopefully) so hard to get things we won’t want to move. It’s an international move so we’re trying to scale back on ‘stuff’. Thinking food- and drink-based gifts might work well. And some more-special-than-Uniqlo ‘being at home all the bloody time’ clothes. Good
luck, OP, keep the ideas coming if you have any lightbulb moments.

RigaBalsam · 28/11/2020 04:26

I am with you op. It seems hard this year. We never buy food or drink as we get that any way or any tat as we don't have the room.

He would not like much of the suggestions so far maybe the T shirt and socks. I have done those several times though and nice after shave.
Last year we bought each other a joint preseny of a sound bar but there was nothing to open Christmas morning.

He wanted a new monitor for his pc but we figured out it would not fit. So back to the drawing board.

I did get him a sous vide cooker for his birthday but all out of ideas now.
Experiences are hard to buy too at tha moment. I bought him theatre tickets last year but the comedian was obviously cancelled.

letsmakethetea · 28/11/2020 07:55

Pressure washer- we have this and it's great

Nilfisk C 120 bar 120.7-6 X-TRA Compact Pressure Washer for Basic Tasks (UK), 240 V, Blue, 30.6 x 25.1 x 71 cm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N34KV8E/ref=cmswwrcppapifabt11_zjGWFb262D7J7

LayTheTableMabel · 28/11/2020 08:29

I have found my dh easy for the first year ever! In his stocking he has

Choc orange
Book on local walks
Fire starter
Biltong
Large Salami
Toiletries
Land Rover magazine

Under the tree-

Kayak sail
His most sentimental picture out of storage, glass replaced and new mount etc (quite large so will cost a bit and will be his main present as very important to him)
Over head towel robe for after kayaking
Special whiskey glass and whiskey

TheRubyRedshoes · 28/11/2020 08:37

For extremely wealthy men what about more personal stuff?.
Photos, photo books? Experiences....

As I said on the other thread a lego toy 16+ for my dh... But I does remind me of our Italian honey moon and we are hopefully returning to Italy next year...

Some booze and maybe track suit..

diplodocusinermine · 28/11/2020 08:43

Ooni pizza oven (this was from whole family as it's expensive and DMum has bought him a pizza peel - we'll give him that first and watch for the 'wtf' face!), jumper, Paddy and Scott's coffee box, toiletries, sweeties - he has juvenile taste so fizzy snakes, jelly babies etc, and liquorice, Italian lemon soaps.

newnewnewbuild · 28/11/2020 13:07

I've just also bought him a royal doulton whiskey decanter and 6 whiskey tumblers
