Wrapping toddler stocking. Yay or nay?

In your experience, is it better to wrap a young toddler's stocking or not? My DS is 1. I'm in two minds over this. Will it be less overwhelming if things are unwrapped? Or am I taking him away from an enjoyable 10 minutes of ripping paper?

Wrap it. The best bit for a young child will be the unwrapping. At 1 he's unlikely to pay much attention to the contents but the unwrapping will be great fun

Wrap definitely! Ripping apart paper is a favourite at that age.

If you'd normally wrap, do it. I can remember the sheer delight on my DD's face when she saw her presents aged 16 months, and the fact she could rip something without getting into trouble.

Wrap - my toys as a child weren't wrapped and it's one big change I introduced for my children and I feel it adds a bit of excitement unwrapping the gifts.

Wrap it in tissue paper so it's easy to open.

Don't waste fancy paper and wrapping on toddler presents.

(And if they end up with loads from family etc, only give a few at a time over the day/boxing day, as too many presents can upset them).

I think it depends on your toddler. Does he like uwrapping things and does he have the dexterity to do it or will he get bored or frustrated? Mine were all different at that age so we went with what was best for them. Folded tissue paper can be easier than wrapping paper with sellotape.

I bought and made lot of gift boxes with lids and gift bags to put the tree presents in for my PFB's first Christmas (11 months) so he could open them himself. They are still going strong and being reused over 2 decades later Grin

I always wrapped, albeit different, cheaper paper (have to watch Father Christmas’s budget) and far from beautifully done, but they tear the paper off so fast, it really doesn’t matter.

Depends, one of my dc’s didn’t really get into unwrapping until she was 2/3 so I wouldn’t have bothered wrapping stocking gifts, as they got older I did as it slowed them down and gave me an extra half hour in bed (stocking were opened in their rooms).

yes! Slows the buggers down so fills more of the morning Grin
