I love those nuts covered in chocolate from Morrison’s.
And Lidl is shit for most food, but we adore their stollen.
Tesco also do hazelnuts covered in chocolate and coconut which are to die for!

What are your favourites?

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/11/2020 20:36

Stollen bites and stuffing

Bookaholic73 · 24/11/2020 20:43

I like Lidl Spiced biscuit. Must look out for the other suggestions . They do a lovely red cabbage (frozen), not sure if it is just a Christmas dish.

Marks and Spencer used to a fillet of beef wrapped in Parma ham that I enjoyed, although the serving size was for six people (that was a giggle). I do not think they are doing this, this year They also did a mini Yorkshire pudding and beef canapé and a lobster mac and cheese. They were lovely the first year they did them but not sure did the recipe change the next year. I don't think either are available.

My local supermarket do a range of Christmas canapés. Their duck spring rolls are lovely. They do canapes caramel slices, chocolate biscuit cakes and rocky road. They are lovely. I pop one in my lunchbox.

Oh that M&S beef wrapped in Parma ham sounds delicious @purplecorkheart.

Is Lidl's stollen better than Aldi's stollen bites?

CosyQueen · 24/11/2020 20:56

Lebkuchen, Stilton, basically any cheese and also anything with marzipan.

Lovemusic33 · 24/11/2020 21:01

Florentines and macarons

purplecorkheart · 24/11/2020 21:01

Highly recommended it if it is available this year in UK. However it is tiny (but delicious). Maybe for three people.

EminyBOO · 24/11/2020 21:01

Cheese and biscuits.
I know I can have it any time of the year, but Christmas is the only time I’m likely to have anything other than cheddar (or babybel or cheese strings Grin) in the house. I’m going to get myself a lovely bit of epoisses this year.

And not food, but liqueurs. I remember when I was young I was allowed to sip tiny little glasses of liqueurs at Christmas time. Tia Maria, Marie brizard (old school!) Bailey’s etc etc. (I come from a continental heritage and giving alcohol to minors was so totally normal when I was growing up - I wouldn’t dream of giving it my dc any time soon!)

Bookaholic73 · 24/11/2020 21:03

@EminyBOO yes I definitely agree with cheese and crackers! My favourite thing to eat on Boxing Day.

@CosyQueen another marzipan fiend here too!

@LaceyBetty yes definitely, in my opinion.

@Bookaholic73 ANY stollen bites. Tesco and Aldi were taste tested last year and were lovely - I've got a box from Tesco in the cupboard and I'm holding out for another week or so before I indulge.

I usually make my own stuffing but any dry stuffing mix combined with sausage meat would also hit the spot

nancybotwinbloom · 24/11/2020 21:09

@ of you like chocolate and if you like nuts they are like crack.

tigger001 · 24/11/2020 21:10

Pigs on blankets ....lots of them

Thanks. I bought the M&S stollen bites and was disappointed.

For me it has to be Asda Extra Special Yule Log. Nothing compares to it. Was ever so slightly nicer the first year we got it when it had the silver bits on top. But still almost as good since it's had the gold. With spray cream (hate proper cream in all forms).

Ooh yes, the best bit of the Christmas Day dinner!

And spiced red cabbage too!

I normally make my own, but tempted to try this instead! I hate real cream too!
