Elf on the shelf bringing presents 😲
Christmas Eve boxes
So much pressure on families to keep up

Ours fills up the advent calander and brings back all our Christmas books and dvds etc. He occasionally brings some sweets and the odd treat.

Shitfuckoh · 23/11/2020 07:57

Ours arrives with a 1st December box. Which is everything I would have given the DC anyway - PJs, Advent Calendars, Crafts kit & cards to write to friends. Always seems to bring back our Christmas books too!

Then some mornings they may find a chocolate coin, others it may be a chocolate figure. Some mornings, he may have eaten it for them! But on those days he usually leaves a note with an activity they'll be doing that day.

Usually leaves behind a Christmas eve box which contains things to make the hot chocolate with, an activitiy book for before bath. New PJs & smellies for the bath. Snacks for watching with a movie. He used to bring a DVD but now just brings a voucher to pick a film from the TV.

Like many previous posters, ours is delivering advent calendars. On the first Saturday they're (we have 2) going to make a big breakfast which will include food treats.

Of course there isn't. No one has to have an Elf! Why should some of us feel like we can't do it, just because others can't?

There will always be a situation where someone can't ''keep up'' if they were of that thought. Doesn't mean anyone else shouldn't do something though.

I’m just thinking about all the unnecessary crap and consumption. So much single use stuff with Christmas dedicated jumpers, crafts etc

whitetilesmurf · 23/11/2020 08:22

@Ritasueandbobtoo9

Why on earth would you even bother?
Because may be the OP wants to.

Honestly, this is the Christmas Board. Jog on if that’s your attitude.

Our Elf brings the advent calendar, that’s all. He also eats the first one.

TheUpholder · 23/11/2020 08:37

It doesn’t have to be unnecessary crap and single use stuff though. I don’t buy Christmas pjs but DD was bought some one year and wore them all year round u til they were outgrown and passed on. Christmas jumper for nursery jumper day was bought a size too big and lasted 2 years, and then this year she has an outgrown one from her cousin. Wooden advent calendar recycled every year. The only single use stuff for us is craft bits used to make cards, but that’s instead of buying cards, and craft stuff is nearly always going to be single use.

I agree that it should be considered, and shudder at the amount of landfill crap generated each festive period, but it is possible to do these sorts of things without being wasteful.

LucyCharlotteP · 23/11/2020 08:40

Ours do they bring the advents, Christmas crafts and Christmas pjs. The pjs only because I feel giving them Christmas pjs Christmas Eve they don’t get the wear out of them. They also leave Christmas crafts, a nice Christmas book a nd some nice breakfast treats to have through December. They also leave the Christmas Eve boxes.

It is extremely rude to tell someone to jog on.

I just feel that all this is just creating more of a throw away culture and particularly this year make people who don’t have the money or energy feel like they are failing.
