Have you done this before? This is our first time without either of our parents! We are looking forward to having our first Christmas Day with our daughter. Our parents (if its allowed) will pop over morning and early evening to spend time together and exchange pressies
We are planning to start weaning on Christmas Day also :)

Oh this was how I spent my first child's Christmas and it was the best Christmas I'd had. We bought in all the food from M&S so that we didn't have to spend too much time in the kitchen. She slept through the meal, which was perfect. It was so lovely giving her presents in the morning - not that she knew what was going on (she was born mid-May so a little older than your daughter.) You'll love it!

Our daughter is our first child and we will be weaning for the first time on Christmas Day too ☺️ She will be about a week past six months

We did with our first - she was 7 months and the amount of baby stuff I had to take with me to go away to see family. So we just spent a very chilled couple of days the three of us :)

This is exactly how we did DD's first Christmas (born end of June).

Happy days, @NoWordForFluffy!

NoWordForFluffy · 22/11/2020 20:34

Very much! 🎄❤️🎅🏻

(We did the same the year after as we had 18 month DD and 5 month DS by then!)

sexesam · 22/11/2020 20:45

We did this when our DD was 6.5 months. It was fab! We timed our lunch to fit in with her naps/lunch and didn't have to lug 2 ton of gear anywhere. The year after at 18months she still didn't 'get' presents but was far more into everything and for it to be the grandparents first family Christmas with her was much better. I still had to lug 2 ton of gear around though!

We had our first Christmas with DS ( who was less than 3 weeks old ) and never slept

I cooked , DH was walking round with DS then we managed our first course before he woke and had to take turns with him.
Boxing Day was lovely though, we put him in his pram all cosy and wrapped ourselves up to go for a walk and look at everyones lights . Then home for sandwiches and cake .

DParents came down for his 2nd Christmas then for his 3rd we had 6month old DD .

It was a strange surreal Christmas with baby DS , it was like everyone else was hurrying about and we were in suspended animation .

VestaTilley · 22/11/2020 22:14

Yes! We did this last year with our new baby.

We dressed up, went to church, cooked a lovely lunch and had a great day with our baby. Doing the same this year.

GooseberryTart · 22/11/2020 22:15

Yes have always done this and its lovely.

worriedwellworrier · 22/11/2020 22:18

Every year! Parents all dead except my dad who spends it with his stepchildren. Used to make me really sad, especially my DD first Xmas , but used to it and enjoy it now!

Meepmeeep · 22/11/2020 22:20

No way in hell would I start weaning on Christmas day - not a chance. Maybe your baby will take to food immediately and all will be perfect but it just seems a hassle you don’t need.

Thermo · 22/11/2020 22:25

We spend it like this every year. We love it, a selfish day to ourselves, joining in with the kids fun and eating loads of crap, no judgement !

UniversalTruth · 22/11/2020 22:27

@Meepmeeep agreed.

OP dc1 had awful stomach pain at night for weeks after moving onto solids - I wouldn't pick Christmas Day to start weaning!

ktsc89 · 22/11/2020 22:29

I'm pregnant and actually very envious of your little Christmas Day just you few together. I really fancy a quiet Christmas next year but can just imagine both sets of grandparents wanting to do something/us having to go over to theirs, and having to race around and lug a million and one things over.

Enjoy!

Pinktornado · 23/11/2020 10:19

Yes, our son was 3 months old and we had a wonderful Christmas just the 3 of us and DDog.

SpnBaby1967 · 23/11/2020 10:31

My daughter was born at the end of March and since then we've always done xmas here. Occasionally had family over on various years. DD is now 11, we would never consider going elsewhere for xmas whilst kids are still young. We have an 8 & 9 year old as well now.

We love our home xmas.

BabyCJuly · 23/11/2020 21:33

@Meepmeeep @UniversalTruth oh goodness! Maybe we won’t - thank you for the heads up! Xxx

Yep. Military family here, Christmas is often just us as we’re so far apart from everyone else with two small children. Enjoy 😊
