Lamb for Christmas?

Hi all

I am Asian by ethnicity but enjoy the festivities of Christmas. I try to do typical Christmas lunch and usually order the ready to cook stuff on Food to Orders.

I have been buying turkey for several years but wanted a change. Last year wasn’t much of a success. I bought a salt and pepper beef rib joint and since we only have a countertop plug in oven, it took ages to cook and just wasn’t great in general.

I would like to have lamb this year.
I wanted to check if lamb is supposed to be more tender than beef? As we would prefer this.
I should also add that we only prefer the “spicy” and savoury flavours so basically salt/pepper and don’t like the sweet stuffing or glazing - or mint! Which seems to be a popular with lamb dishes.

Anyway I have seen 2 options I am interested in.

groceries.asda.com/product/view-all-food-to-order/asda-extra-special-welsh-half-lamb-leg-with-port-shallot-garlic-gravy-typically-1-2-kg/1000238779208
But this says it serves 4-7. We are 2 adults and 1 child this year so this could be far too much, but I don’t know how accurate online stated servings are.

The other option is this

groceries.asda.com/product/extra-special-pork-lamb/asda-extra-special-lamb-chump-joint-typically-370-g/1000005724143
But it’s not in the food to order range so would it be hard for me to execute and also enough for us??

Lastly, I have seen the ready made beef and turkey gravy’s but nothing for lamb. What can be used? I have seen meat gravy granules in the past but don’t know if they are any good?

Luckily I have a click and collect slot for 24th so I prefer to buy the “fresh” food instead of frozen.

Anyway, I know this may be a bit of an odd post. I hope O made sense and please don’t be mean! I’m not lazy! I just don’t want to make anything from scratch as I also have a newborn

Thank you.

Any advice appreciated.

This year we are having wagyu steak and lobster.

Because fuck 2020 and I'll do what I like...both options sound amazing and as a mum of 3 I can tell you think, it isn't worth killing yourself over a stove.

Make it easy on yourself and snuggle with your baby.

You will thank yourself later unlike me who can't believe she did that for no thanks...and for what?!! To be seen as superwoman? Fuck that. I'd slap myself now!

Tesco Finest range has ready made lamb gravy.

I love lamb and we've had it for Xmas for quite a few years now.

You do you. It,s decision for the people who are eating/cooking and no one else.

You can use onion gravey or vegetable gravy with lamb.

If you have a slow cooker throw it all in there.

You can freeze what’s left for the following week.

If you’re prepared to be patient slow cooking this, it’s delicious and the meat falls of the bone. Foolproof!

Cooking a roast in one of those countertop ovens is always going to be a bit of a challenge, but Schummakker’s slow roast is a great idea if you invest the time to let it cook really long and really slow. Shoulder of lamb is, in my opinion, nicer than leg and juicer as a slow roast. You might want to make sure you get lamb that has been boned already so it’s easier to carve.
