Christmas cards & Covid-19

DCs schools have asked the children don’t bring Christmas cards in this year. I can understand not handing out to children in other bubbles but given they are still interacting as normal in their school bubbles I don’t see the harm in it.

we won’t be doing our usual Christmas activities, visiting family, Santa, Christmas lights, parties, pantomimes.... I always invite their friends around for a small party, watching Xmas movies & treats on the last day of school, none of it will be happening. It didn’t even cross my mind they wouldn’t be able to do their Christmas cards. I’m quite sad about it.

Could you post them by hand to classmates? Assuming you know where they live of course.

The school where I work hasn't made a decision on this yet, but I do get a lot of kids asking me why they can't do one thing when they can do another. I understand, some rules don't seem logical and other things don't seem like they'd do any harm.

My answer is that we can't do absolutely everything to negate the spread of covid, but we do what we can. Schools don't have all the answers; they're just trying to do their best to keep everyone safe by stopping unnecessary contact, while keeping school as normal as possible for the children.

I understand that it's disappointing and feels like another one of the harmless, fun things we can do has been taken away. Is there a parents whatsapp group? Maybe your children could make a card for their classmates that you could photograph and post on there? Everything about covid sucks doesn't it :(

Ours haven’t said anything about Christmas cards. They’re still allowing children to take in sweets for their birthdays etc so I assume it’ll be fine within their bubble.

We aren’t allowed either but I’ve said they can do them for their friends that live near and we can drop over .

My sons' school are allowing a Christmas postbox - cards have to be posted on a Monday or Tuesday and will then be quarantined for three days and delivered on a Friday.

HerbErtlinger · 21/11/2020 07:33

Ours is only to those in their bubble and needs to be in by the 7th December so they can be quarantined in a box and handed out on the last day of term

BlackCatShadow · 21/11/2020 07:36

It's crap, but there are other things you can do. Maybe have a look on Pinterest for some ideas of things your kids can do instead. We will make cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, a chocolate fountain on the last day of school and we'll make paper chains to decorate the living room with.

IamChipmunk · 21/11/2020 07:44

Ours are not doing a postbox but are allowing children to take cards in for children in their bubble.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 21/11/2020 08:01

Ours are letting children send cards in for their class as long as there is time to quarantine them before handing out, or to write one card for the whole class to be displayed. My DC is very happy about writing 1 card instead of 29

I totally understand. I think the teachers have done an amazing job while still trying to keep things fun for the kids. I just wasn’t expecting this one. We know where their close friends live and I will contact the other parents about exchanging cards out of school. They will probably enjoy driving around and posting the cards x
