I thought I'd make a thread for all the Christmas lovers to help us get into the festive spirit!🎄

Feel free to share your Christmas plans, recipes, traditions, tips ect.
If you'd like to share pictures of your tree's or decor, I'd also love that!

(& yes, I did name change for this Wink)

So looking forward to 1st December. Once the DC go to bed on 30th November I decorate downstairs (not tree as get a real one a couple of weeks later and all decorate it). I make them a Christmas breakfast - it will be Tree/Star shaped pancakes, Kiwi tree, mini mince pies and gingerbread men, this year. I set out their advent calendars and they also get some arts and crafts supplies for making cards/decorations etc. I can't wait!

Mytinyman · 20/11/2020 11:53

I love christmas! Been watching Christmas films since August and last Saturday i cracked and put the tree up, it makes us all so happy to have it twinkling and cosy at night Smile

Elephanttrunk · 20/11/2020 12:10

I watched The Christmas Chronicles for the first time today and it’s made me feel all Christmassy 🥰

SpillingTheTea · 20/11/2020 12:13

Love Christmas!
We put our tree up last Saturday but finishing the rest of the decorations this weekend.
I have a 16 mo DS and he's been pretty good with the tree actually.
We usually do wonderland walk, Christmas tree light switch on with the french market and usually go around the Christmas markets but that won't happen this year. Which is a shame but me and DP have said one night well drive around and see who has lights up. There is a town near us and some streets go all out so we'll take DS to look at them.

SpillingTheTea · 20/11/2020 12:14

Xmas Grin

I'm the only one in my house thinking "Have I got enough Christmas Toilet Paper "?

DH would say "Yes" but I like to put it in the bathroom/downstairs loo on Dec 1st so I don't want to run out by 22nd Dec .

I want to get some Christmassey hand towels too - TKMaxx are great hunting ground but of course closed at the moment .
It does seem trivial, I will be fine without (but I work in frontline NHS so I damn well need a but of triviality)

DC are 18 and 21 . DH and I are planning a quiet Christmas , nice food , not going overboard . Just the 4 of us ( plus the Cats )

No decorations yet , that'll start on the 1st and we'll go from there .

The DC are fairly unfazed , DS got his main presents already ( 21st+Christmas combined) I need to find DDs present (main one)

I have the Dec 1st Hamper contents ready . And DD Beauty Advent Calendar .

I have holidays booked Dec 1st ( was meant to be going away) so we'll have a hopefully lazy day , nice breakfast etc.

I am in cleaning mode at the moment ( boring but it has to be done otherwise the rest of it doesn't work out )

Elephanttrunk · 20/11/2020 13:41

@SpillingTheTea Netflix says it will be available on Wednesday ☺️ Love Kurt Russel

guffaux · 20/11/2020 18:11

started reading nigel slater's christmas chronicles - was going read it properly on each day, so should only be on nov. 20th, but am already on dec 11th lol- could never wait- it is definitely getting me ready for christmas- and i love advent, so by the time i've finished the slater i'll be ready for tom wright who will see me through advent and christmas

festivebug · 21/11/2020 04:34

I'm also excited for The Christmas Chronicles 2! Another great movie on Netflix is The Holiday Calendar. My all time favourite Christmas movie would have to be Elf even though DH hates it! Grin

We are starting our Christmas movie marathon tonight. Dp is aghast but can feck off to the bedroom with Netflix.

I finally allowed myself to hit my Spotify playlist the other afternoon and almost wept with the utter joy of beautiful (and at times totally crap Grin) music after a rubbish year.

The feelings of nostalgia I think are the strongest for me at Christmas.

kavalkada · 21/11/2020 07:20

Lovely thread.

I woke up two hours ago and wrapped seven gifts watching I'll be seeing you, a film from 1944 with Ginger Rogers and Joseph Cotten for little bit of Christmas atmosphere. For those of you who haven't seen it, it is forgotten Christmas gem about a a young woman on Christmas furlough from prison who meets soldier suffering from combat fatigue in train and they spend Christmas holidays together and fall in love.

But I can't wait December the first. I think I like it even more then Christmas.

First I wake up early while kids are still in bed and put our fleece advent calendar on the wall in the kitchen. I put different kinds of candies in it (mostly chocolate) and some days have activity cards in it. This is the first thing my six year old son will see when he wakes up and I can't wait the look on his face. I found some lovely looking small chocolates for this year. His sister is only one so I still don't have advent calendar for her but I hope to find something lovely on sale for next year.

We don't have time for special breakfast this year because it is Tuesday but no cooking for me on this day. We'll order pizza for dinner and watch Christmas film with kids. I have lovely Christmas mugs that go out on December the 1st so I can't wait for that.

Christmas puzzle goes on the table and we will (I hope) finish it till Christmas Eve. I have two so I haven't yet decided which one to use:
this one
www.amazon.co.uk/Ravensburger-Christmas-Library-1000pc-Jigsaw/dp/B071KZSZQ3/ref=sr_1_38?dchild=1&crid=2XXGWUHYUHB2J&keywords=ravensburger+winter+puzzle&sprefix=ravensburger+winter+puzzle%2Caps%2C189&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1605942747&sr=8-38

or this one
www.ravensburger.org/uk/products/puzzles/adult-puzzles/leisure-days-no-3-the-winter-village-1000pc-13988/index.html

Christmas activity books come out - bought on sale in January for pennies and also Christmas books go out and we start reading them.

We decorate the tree on second Saturday in December, but all other ornaments go out. My favorite are lights in children's room that go around their small library so we read Christmas books on the floor with blankets and pillows and lights. It is truly magical.

TheSockMonster · 21/11/2020 07:36

I can’t wait! Not really bothered about the presents, it’s that cosy feeling you get with all the decorations up that I love.

Since we won’t be doing our usual Christmas activities, I’ve invested in some extra decorations this year so the house can look amazing. Gorgeous natural looking garlands for the banisters and mantle, tartan and red knit wool throws and cushions for the sitting room and bedroom, plus some other lovely bits for the dining table and window sills.

I will start to put things up from 1st December, culminating in the tree - a real one - around the 13th.

So excited!

TheSockMonster · 21/11/2020 07:37

Those Christmas jigsaws are both lovely @kavalkada

I’m hoping my MIL will be able to come and stay. She loves a jigsaw but doesn’t have space to do one at the moment. It could be something lovely for us to do together.

Oysterbabe · 21/11/2020 08:19

My kids are 3 and 5 and are really excited. Not as excited as me. I'm desperate to get started. We've just splashed out on a nice fake tree so we can put it up earlier probably this week

30th November the elf door will appear on the skirting board. 1st December the elves and a new addition, a fairy, will appear outside the door. I have lots of fun ideas for this year. DD talks about them all the time. I know lots of people think it's pointless shit but the kids absolutely love it and we have so much fun.

DH keeps grumbling that the kids have enough stuff now but I have my eye on a few more bits for their stockings.

MrsWhites · 21/11/2020 08:58

Lovely thread.

Jingle Jangle is a lovely film just out on Netflix, a bit like a Christmassy greatest showman!

Oysterbabe · 21/11/2020 09:02

We're watching Arthur Christmas on Netflix just now, it's a favourite.

Lazysundayafternoons · 21/11/2020 09:21

A Christmas lover here too. And you've reminded me that I'll have to do a Christmas name change Smile

Weve been watching Arthur christmas regularly for the last few months and have watched thee grinch a few times since it was released on Netflix a few weeks ago. Last week though we stepped it up and watched the Christmas chronicles, home alone and elf. I want to watch Deck the Halls next.

I have most of my wrapping presents done, I am super organised this year Smile. I have a cupboard full of chocolates, biscuits etc. Have got Christmas jumpers for DC and bonus points for me for getting ds7 a super Mario one!

The tree will be going up towards the end of next week and I managed to get some nice colourful lights for outside too.

I just have a few presents left to get when pay day comes around next week. I'm paid monthly so this will be my last chance to get the last few presents. 🎄🎅

BiddyPop · 21/11/2020 09:42

I've been listening to Nigel Slaters Christmas chronicles podcast (it goes with the book) which is lovely. I don't have the book (yet)...

TheSilentStars · 21/11/2020 12:15

The book is lovely Biddy. Not so much the recipes which are a muchness of contemporary sleb chef stuff but his writing about the traditions is gorgeous. I didn't know there was a podcast. I'll look for it.
