I’m trying to avoid amazon and buy from smaller businesses who need the support a bit more... also think the smaller businesses have more carefully selected options and might help give me some ideas.

Can anyone recommend some websites to look at - I already know of
Wicked Uncle
Smyths toys
Not on the high street

But would love some other ideas please
Thank you!

Just wanted to say keep clear of Precious Little One. I ordered from them a few years ago without any issues, but I had to take to Trust Pilot recently in order to get a refund, and all the recent reviews are dreadful.

I’ve just joined mumsnet so I can post about the excellent customer service I’ve received from these two companies (just in a friendly way responding to me asking for information - not because of any issues!!).

www.lovemygifts.co.uk/ - personalised presents

www.jaqueslondon.co.uk/ - wooden toys and games

Still a big company but - I always find John Lewis good for toys - they usually price match on branded things and they have good quality, affordable own brand things too. I bought a JL branded version of Battleships for my DS, looks great and about half the price of the Hasbro one. Click and collect is usually free / cheap and is convenient from Waitrose for me.

Oh I was looking at jacquestoys for a chess set! Good to have a good report.

Again, not small companies ... but I was looking for some generic stuff like Lego and other brands and actually, I found Amazon to be the most expensive. I've found it a lot in the last few years and I can't think why people think it's always the cheapest.
Free shipping, yeah I know but a Lego Harry Potter set that was 80.00 in Smyths was 139.99 in Amazon that's a fair bit more than bloody shipping!!

Jacques of London. Gorgeous stuff and they market themselves as anti screen and have age range toys.

tinkerbellvspredator · 20/11/2020 22:49

We are on the BrightMinds catalogue mailing list, the kids go through the winter edition and circle everything they want, lots of brilliant stuff and gives you a good idea of what they're into.

Year 6 child didn't find so much she wanted this year so maybe getting too old for it (circled 3-4 items), 6 or old circled about 30!

The Entertainer (thetoyshop.com) have lots of decent deals on and good customer service.

I mainly buy from Babi Pur and Yes Bebe for my two (2 and 6). Yes Bebe has a particularly good book shop, and also interesting sciency things. Both have lots of lovely building blocks, wooden animals etc.

I buy lots of stocking fillers from toysforapound. They change their stock frequently, I've got lots of branded bits very cheaply. Eg lol stationary, funko pop minis, squishies and little blind bags. Plus things like sand art kits, wind up teeth etc. Very fast delivery too.

Sass and belle do lovely items, ive ordered directly from their website in the past with no problems. But ive also seen them on neon sheep and rex of London. Both also have nice bits for sale.

Blippo for kawaii style stationary and Japanese sweets.

Qwertee for fun tshirts (change daily) my dd wore ladies small from age 9-10 as they are small fitting. But they do kids ones too. And prints.

Kukubird for leggings and other fun printed bits.

Artbox for pusheen the cat, gudetama and other Japanese characters.

The toy shop. Great prices and lots of offers. Sign up for their birthday club for an extra 20% off birthday code. You can add up to 10 so I usually do one in Oct, Nov and Dec to grab christmas gifts!

Wonderbly for personalised books. Beautiful gift and lovely book.

Mad musuem.

It's a tiny musuem in Stratford, wallet and grommet style stuff... Marble runs to build, some are self working with the marble on mechanism yiu build or cityscapes like moving London sky line.

Following with interest! I really want to shop from small businesses this Christmas but don't know where to look really.

I bought DS a chess set and mastermind game from there last year. They are both gorgeous wooden sets and came wrapped beautifully in tissue paper and brown, thick cardboard boxes. We've used them both a lot this year and they still look brand new Smile

I've bought some lovely children's presents from Great Little Trading Co over the years

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 01/08/2021 11:26

Tip for if you need to create a list for others to buy from that auto updates (so no duplicates!). You can still create an Amazon wishlist but not link other websites (so nothing on the list actually has to be from Amazon)
