Aldi fake Baileys

I'm sure I've read on here that Aldi's version of Baileys is lovely. I had a little look today while I was doing my weekly shop, but there was 2 sorts.

Is it the cheaper one that's nice or is it worth paying a few pounds more for the specially selected one?

Thank you! Grin

The December issue of Which? rates Aldi Specially Selected Irish Cream Deluxe Liqueur very highly; the taste test score for the Baileys Original is only 2% higher.

PaintTheFence · 16/11/2020 16:02

Ooh thank you. I'll go for that one then!

I like both. The cheapest one (Ballycastle?) is perfect acceptable. Obviously if you had it next to a real Baileys you can tell the difference I think but we quite like a Faileys (Fake Baileys) in this house! Grin

I am not as illustrious as Which, but I'd also recommend the Specially Selected version.
Delicious with ice or with coffee.

Teacup34 · 19/11/2020 16:09

I had the Ballycastle one last year and I didn't really like it Hmm. I've brought the Aldi amaretto this year it's lovely in hot choc and coffee!

GreenPlum · 19/11/2020 16:17

It's the more expensive one. We were converted a few years ago!

ritzbiscuits · 19/11/2020 16:25

Definitely the specially selected one

GuillermoVanHelsing · 19/11/2020 16:27

I think the cheapy one only has wine in it, not whisky.

At least that was the case a couple of years ago anyway

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 19/11/2020 16:28

The expensive one. It's way better than baileys

caperplips · 19/11/2020 16:54

The Specially Select one is lovely and we usually have a bottle. I went off the Ballycastle, cheaper one last year.

This year I am REALLY excited because I have the Bailey's chocolate deers from the tv ad and I'm planning to recreate them exactly with squirty cream and straws. I am ridiculously happy!

superstar84 · 19/11/2020 16:59

Baileys is £10 a litre in Asda, started today and think it's finishing Sunday

Standrewsschool · 19/11/2020 17:01

The Aldi pimms alternative is lovely also. Doesn’t taste the same as Pimms, but a suitable alternative.

Off to google Baileys deers.

Shitfuckoh · 19/11/2020 17:02

@caperplips
Do you mind me asking where you got them from? I'm extremely jealous!

mrsdavegrohl · 19/11/2020 17:09

Aldi do a gingerbread flavour one and its amazing

Both really good. The new white chocolate one is like an alcoholic milkybar, soooo good!

Sorry to divert the thread slightly but I like the Aldi strawberries and cream baileys, it's so good but I noticed on the bottle it says to refrigerate once open. Does anyone know how necessary this actually is? I've never kept baileys in the fridge!

WeAllHaveWings · 19/11/2020 22:23

I've never kept baileys in the fridge!

You dont need to keep baileys in the fridge, it keeps fresh for 2 years at room temperature according to their website . Other brands might vary on storage instructions and also have a shorter shelf life.

I tried the aldi versions but prefer original baileys, not keen on the different flavours though, way too sweet.

caperplips · 20/11/2020 13:02

@PaintTheFence sorry only seeing this now. Baileys partnered with handmade chocolate company Lir and brought out the deers that feature in the ad on tv last year. I missed them last year as I didn't know it was happening. They had limited stock I think. This year I looked for them early and got 3 of them. They're selling them through Tesco in Ireland anyway and they're €3.50 each. I bought a bottle of actual baileys too to put into them.
