Christmas Dress for teen

DD would love a new dress to wear on Christmas. Problem, she is 13, adult size 8, height 1.65m. She also has decent hips and bust sizes already.

She outgrew kids sizes eons ago but most dress-up dresses in the adult section are too grown up.

Where do you shop for a fashion consious teen but avoid looking as she is at least 3-4 years older.

I had a look at Zara and New Look but most dresses do look hideous and with no way to try them on in store (if they open again before Christmas) I want to avoid spending a fortune on online delivery.

Next have always got a decent range & she would fit into either the adult size or the kids range goes upto age 16.

I’m a size 12 and 175cm and still fit into the age 16 there.

Alternatively H&M have some nice dresses in the adults range, not too dressy.

Topshop? Maybe Dorothy Perkins? I used to go to both of these (and Miss Selfridge but not sure if that is still around) when I was 13/14 (many moons ago).

Boohoo, pretty little thing & misguided have really good prices and a lot of options. A lot of their stuff is definitely more grown up but there are some more age appropriate things in there as well!

I'm not from the UK so don't know many other shops you have there. x

Next have a couple of lipsey ones in the girls section that are in older girls size and look more teenage style rather than adult or child

LeaveMyDamnJam · 16/11/2020 10:05

I was going to suggest Zara. I have just bought a couple of dresses. I’ll slink off now to my tower of hideousness 😉

Ted Baker

Let her find one herself, I’m always surprised on MN that ppl still pick their teenagers clothes.

Dd got a red velvet skater dress from Asos a couple years ago which seems to have been a good buy. She also has a sequinned mini she pairs with a plain top

@LeaveMyDamnJam - I based it on what I saw on their website. I don’t wear dresses and find most difficult to see if they are flattering or not on a model whose pose it in a way that you cannot even see the dress properly. It may be different if we could go and see the dress.

@SBTLove - I did. Her suggestions were Little Black Dresses suitable for clubbing or lace dresses from a summer collection. Or a dress for £75 which is out of budget for something she wears 1-2 times.

I don’t pick her clothes, I object some choices and try to find shops which can give her an alternative. If I would buy something I know she wouldn’t wear it. She normally lives in jeggings, tops from New Look and oversized hoodies is she is cold. Add jodhpurs and dance outfits and there is not a lot of need for anything dressy at the moment. Especially as there are no parties to go to.

My 15 year old likes Bershka and Shein and neither will break the bank - worth taking a look

Fauvist · 16/11/2020 13:23

DD is 14 and has nice dresses from Urban Outfitters and also Hollister.

Hoppinggreen · 16/11/2020 13:28

Oh yes, my teen likes both of those places too

ChelseaCat · 16/11/2020 13:32

ASOS has a huge variety

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 16/11/2020 19:18

I've ordered DD6 a couple of 'worn once' Ebay party dresses. It'll be nice to dress up this Christmas but they will be back on Ebay next year as 'worn twice' Grin. Next are good for in between ages.

DD liked topshop and Zara from around the same age. We would dress down with opaque tights and flat boots. With low necks we added T-shirts or vest tops.
