My boys are 4 and (almost) 2 at Christmas this year. Not sure what to put in their stockings...we didnt do stockings growing up but keen to start the tradition. Was thinking an orange, some chocolate, socks, bubbles, bath bomb. Any other ideas? Would love to hear what you all do.....

In my 2.5 year old DS' stocking this year:

A Lanka Kade wooden penguin
A Lanka Kade wooden tractor
Hot Wheels cars
Pluffle pet
Bath bomb
Orchard Toys mini game
Chocolates

The first year my DD really 'got' Christmas was when she was 2.5 and the stocking was the first thing we gave her. She was beyond ecstatic with it and didn't realise she had any other presents Smile

4 year old is getting chocolate coins, face paints, dinosaur torch projector, shark puppet, sarah and duck cuddly toys, cheap watercolour paint palette and a bubble wand. It sounds a lot written down but they are all small and between £1 and £8.

There’s the MN rhyme
“Something you want
Something you need
Something to eat
Something to read”

I try to give them enough food and entertainment to leave me a alone for a while! A new DVD used to work well for that.

Make sure you use the cheapest crappest wrapping paper (or tissue paper) for stocking presents - it must be different from your main tree present wrapping paper, because it's from Santa...

Chocolate bean sprouts, chocolate coins. Satsuma. A rolled up magazine. A small toy (like a matchbox car). A tube of bubbles. New underwear and socks (you can carry this right through to when they’re young men!). Lego man, or Duplo animal for the younger one. A candy cane.

I also used to put a small stuffed animal or soft toy peeking out of the top.

But doesn't santa also put a sack by the bed? X

That’s different in every household..........

Many discussions have been had on it, on MN! Xmas Wink

I love Rex London for stocking bits. I’ve got 6 year old DS a few ‘spy’ things and some juggling balls from there for his stocking.
My top tip would be to think carefully about what you’re putting in. It’s easy to buy a load of stuff to bulk it out that you’ll end up throwing out in February. That doesn’t mean you need to spend lots. I just try to think to myself ‘I could get a handful of Poundland toys or a new set of Crayola pens’, that sort of thing! Oh and I ‘upgrade’ essential things to make them stocking worthy - so maybe some character socks rather than a big pack of Asda ones Grin
