What are you getting your 6/7 year old boys?

DS is 6 almost 7, he has asked for a gaming chair (just a small fold away one not one of the big expensive ones) for his switch that he got last year, a couple of games for this and a football kit.

I’m really stuck for other ideas, especially for family who are asking what they could get him too. He loves football but he already has quite a few kits, football equipment, boots etc.

Would love to hear what you are getting for your similar aged boys please.

Ds is 6 and we've got him:
A dirt/off road scooter
Turin Tumble
A microscope
A flag/map game - he's obsessed
An automatone

JoanneCofton · 15/11/2020 10:19

My DS is having an electric scooter and a mario gaming chair (the fold down one). He’s also got some play doh, cars, some teddies, a few books and a Google mini (that I got free from Spotify 😂)

JoanneCofton · 15/11/2020 10:20

Oh and a Nintendo voucher so he can download a new game to his switch

mooncakes · 15/11/2020 10:22

I have a 6 year old who doesn’t really play with toys so is so hard to buy for!
I’m getting him some Pokemon stuff (cards, slippers and a hoodie)
Some books & comics
A scooter
A Nintendo game

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/11/2020 10:31

Do all your 6 year old have Nintendo Switches? I've been saying no computer games until he's 8 (barring the odd bit of Pac-Man etc) but I'm starting to worry that he will be out of step with his friends!

fedup2017 · 15/11/2020 10:39

A Yoda costume
A new lightsaber ( both on his list)
A nerf gun ( dog version ) to play with the dog
An archery set from decathlon.
Some duct tape and big cardboard boxes so he can make "real life Minecraft" base. May also get a camo net/ other den building bits and bobs.

In stocking: chocolate and some Lego minifigures.

He hasn't asked for any tech.... Tbh all bases already covered with 3 older brothers and he only plays Minecraft on the PS4 by himself.
He still really enjoys dressing up and playing "games" by himself ...... Hence all the weaponry.

Ohdoleavemealone · 15/11/2020 10:39

Gravitrax set
Bike
Hidden Lego
Xbox game
YouTube hoodie
Monopoly banker

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 15/11/2020 10:43

Holding off on a switch here - seen too many posts by people wishing they had never given them consoles! DS is getting Hot Wheels, lots of Pokemon bits and bobs, as well as books and a beanbag for his (just redone) bedroom. Usual bath bomb/pyjamas for stocking as well.

Think it will mostly depend on whether they are oldest or younger siblings! Mine has an older brother.
BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/11/2020 11:42

My boy has atypical tastes as he's asked for a recorder! 😁

However, also considering:
Magnetic dartboard
Lego/playmobil
Slime
Science experiment set.
Onesie
Pie face game

Shitfuckoh · 15/11/2020 11:45

Mines getting Playmobil Scooby doo mansion.
A couple of Switch games.
Lego
Some Avengers figures

A shared Playstation with his older sibling with a few games.

Alakazam8 · 15/11/2020 11:47

My nephew loves Hot wheels and gravitrax

Mine got the lite one for his 6th Birthday as he kept wanting to steal his siblings! I limit screen time but he doesn't ask for it very often anyway, he'd much rather be playing with Lego or drawing.
MrsWhites · 15/11/2020 11:51

Thank you everyone, some really good ideas!

He’s never really been interested in riding bikes or scooters which would have made it much easier to tick off the ‘main present’!

I’ve added some Lego to his list and will have a look at all the other things suggested too!

My eldest is about to turn 8, but things he wants or has lived over the past year, include:
Horrible science sets
Hot wires
Bugs in the Kitchen game
Exploding kittens game
Labyrinth game
Decathlon archery set
Space hopper
Hidden Side, Minecraft & HP Lego
How to Train your dragon books

TheYearOfSmallThings
We have decide against buying our son, who turns 8 at Christmas, a Switch. A couple of his friends have consoles, but not many, and I don’t feel he is out of step. We let him play Minecraft (creative) and a Dragon game on the iPad, so he gets to play, but it’s my iPad, so easy to control when he has it etc.

HamSandwichKiller · 15/11/2020 12:13

Gravitrax
Mario lego
Pretend safe
Kids Labs whirlpool kit
Colour changing lightbulb
Demolition lab
Ticket to ride board game
Switch game

Some of it might move to his birthday in January

Grandparents will be getting him a Nintendo Switch so he's a very lucky boy

MrsWhites · 15/11/2020 12:28

Definitely adding Gravitrax to his list, it looks great. I’d never heard of it before this thread so thank you for all the recommendations!

Thinking maybe his grandparents could get him an extension kit, does anyone recommend a particular one?

@TheYearOfSmallThings we have two boys the oldest is 7 and we don’t have any consoles or iPads etc for them .. I want to hang on as long as we can as I know once they have them there’s no going back!
They aren’t bothered about not having one altho they enjoy playing on friends or families switch.
At the minute they play with Lego for hours and hours.
For Christmas we have Lego (more of the stuff! Some Ninjago which they are mad about and some Harry Potter)
Also gravitrax.
We bought the Garmin kids watches when they were cheap.
A new board game as always (labyrinth, takenoko, carcassonne if they like games) then lots of smaller bits, Lego books, beano annual, fact books, storey treehouse books (yes they love books so quite easy to buy for) new chilli-type bottles, storm trooper dress up, Melissa and Doug spy kit, some knights for their wooden castle. Little stocking bits;bath bombs, gelli baff stuff, compass, jacks, little ‘gems’, whoopi cushion .

MinnieMountain · 15/11/2020 19:22

A Beano subscription.

DS is just 7 and asked for a Switch recently so he can play games on holiday. We said no. He plays Minecraft on the PS and a game with DH on the computer. I feel that’s plenty.

EcoCustard · 15/11/2020 20:31

My 6 year old ds is getting a skateboard, Playmobil farm ( to add to his existing one), Hot Wheels track, a few small Lego sets, Battleships game, book and his stocking.

Only just turned 6, and is still happy with his Kindle so in answer to the previous poster trying to resist a switch for now. Many school friends have them but so far he has shown little interest, prefers bmx, skateboarding and Playmobil, Lego or drawing. I worry he might be left out but he doesn’t seem to fuss for now.

OdeToAutumn · 15/11/2020 20:43

They’ve been mentioned but highly recommend gravitrax and hot wires

Poppystars · 15/11/2020 21:17

My nearly 7 year old will be getting:
Lego - Creator and HP
National Geographic for Kids Subscription ( a grandparent gift)
Watercolour pencils
Felt tips ( needs new ones thanks to lockdown learning!)
Scooter
Electro-Dough set

GameSetMatch · 16/11/2020 10:07

My six year old has asked for:
Treasure X pirate ship
Lego
Transformer Scorpinoc (main gift £120 😬)
Quinteson judge
Polly pocket juice box
Screwball scramble level two
Slime washing machine
Dino smashers egg

ritzbiscuits · 16/11/2020 10:13

@MrsWhites my son is 7 and is having:

  • a couple of Switch games
  • Micro scalextric set (Batman/Joker)
  • a couple of board games
  • Knex bridges set (he loves bridges!)
  • lots of books
  • a Pokemon cuddly toy

@TheYearOfSmallThings My DS has his Switch aged 6, I'd say a good handful of children had them in Year 1, with the rest playing on tablets. I work in app technology so I've always embraced computer games with my son. He has strict times he can use it and homework comes first.
