Tipping at Christmas

I don’t usually, but as we’ve saved money this year due to cancelled holidays I want to do something for people who have helped locally. Was thinking about putting £10 in a xmas card for people like the postman, courier, village post office and pharmacy. Anonymously where possible.

Is this a silly idea? Any other similar suggestions? I can’t work out how it would work for the binmen

We always give the postman a tip, just catch him on his round usually. Same when I used to get the sunday paper delivered, I'd leave a card for them with cash in. DH friend worked on the bins years ago and I remember him telling me they got a lot of cards with money in taped to the bins for them at xmas time. It's not something I've ever done though.

I usually just put it in a card for them. Postie, bin men, regular delivery drivers, and on Christmas Eve have a bunch of sweets (like the tubes of fruit pastels, or chocolate oranges) available by the front door for any last minute deliveries.

I tip the post man and bin men - cash in a card taped to the door/bin (we are rural and not much chance of it being stolen). I do it because they go above and beyond (postie signs for deliveries and leaves them in the shed which saves us and hour and a half trip to the post office, and the bin men will go in search of my bin if I forget to put it out).
