Healthy Christmas breakfast

...no, I’m not the fun police!

We’re going all out this christmas after a rubbish year, and I really want something special for breakfast for DD (2.5) as she’s really getting into the festivities! Something that looks fun and tastes delicious.

I’ve googled and pinterested ideas, but most of them involve chocolate, sweets, marshmallows etc. Under all normal circumstances I’d be up for this, as it’s a one off, BUT DD is under paediatrics for a number of reasons and we have been advised to monitor her sugar levels and keep them as consistent as possible, so as to avoid spikes and troughs. So chocolate, sweets, even a full plate of fruit is out.

Normally she has dippy eggs, or porridge, or cheese on toast. Any creative ideas?! She can have some fruit so long as it’s balanced with something less sugary.

Ideally vegetarian as the rest of us are veggie (she’s not as she’s restricted enough but I’m not wild about cooking something like bacon tbh!)

Poor kid. Halloween was bloody miserable!

Smashed avocado on toast? Could top with halloumi or poached eggs.

PointeShoesandTutus · 11/11/2020 21:56

Ooh I’d forgotten about avocado! I could cut it into a Christmas tree! Great idea! 🌲

Dippy eggs in festive egg cups? Porridge with one Christmas choc in the middle?

Teaandchocolatedigestives · 11/11/2020 21:59

Something like peanut or almond butter on toast, with strawberries or Clementine
Poached eggs on toast
Soft cheese/dairylea on toast.
More savory type pancakes

Teaandchocolatedigestives · 11/11/2020 22:00

Crumpets? Some super markets usually do festive shaped ones

KitKatastrophe · 11/11/2020 22:01

Veggie pigs in blankets? I hear quorn cocktail sausages are nice. And then egg and toast and have a fry up but a bit of a christmassy twist.

You can usually buy crumpets or pancakes in the shape of Christmas trees or similar.

French toast? With some fruit?

pickingdaisies · 11/11/2020 22:02

Eggy bread, you could cut it into shapes.

Ginnotgym · 11/11/2020 22:02

I think Asda and coop sell Christmas tree shaped crumpets xx

KitKatastrophe · 11/11/2020 22:02

Also good idea above to get Christmas egg cups. A christmassy plate and cup could be a cute stocking filler and make breakfast a bit more festive

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/11/2020 22:02

French toast cut into Christmas tree shapes or reindeer shapes?

CarouselRider · 11/11/2020 22:03

Eggs florentine?

NauseousNancy · 11/11/2020 22:04

We have red egg cups that have Santa hats for the top of the egg, and I cut Christmas tree ‘soldiers’.

burglarbettybaby · 11/11/2020 22:05

Homemade pancakes (no sugar)

Whatatoodoodle · 11/11/2020 22:05

Savoury muffins
Chocolate orange porridge

ArthurChristmas2 · 11/11/2020 22:12

Avocado on rye bread shaped into a tree, Santa face pancake using strawberries and a bit of cream for decoration, Christmas tree made with sliced kiwi fruit and other fruits to decorate!

1manwenttomow · 11/11/2020 22:12

Baked oats if she's allowed yogurt perhaps made with some thin apple slices, a handful of raisens and cinnamon or mixed spice or both a sweet taste but not too sugary, Christmas crumpets are a good idea too, or could use different cutters and make shaped toast to dip in an egg, miniature croissants with cheese and ham, normally porridge with a sprinkle of hundreds and thousands on or edible glitter or can sometimes get the hundreds and thousands that are teeny shapes like trees, snowflakes or presents etc.

goose1964 · 11/11/2020 22:22

My grandson loves this ,basically a cheese sandwich squished down and then cooked in egg and then fried. So a French toast sandwich. It works with wholemeal bread too

timeisnotaline · 11/11/2020 22:53

French toast or pancakes and berries and cream? Ham cheese croissant, heated in oven? Sausages? Maybe you could arrange a friend to cook her sausages and bacon over the holiday period Grin
Is sugar free jelly ok? I never recommend that kind of thing but in this case sounds fine.

Twilightstarbright · 12/11/2020 06:57

I'd do eggy bread/french toast and cute out a simple star/tree/snowman stencil and dust icing sugar/cocoa powder/cinnamon onto it. Could work for porridge too?

I sympathize, DS is very sensitive to sugar and he'd be a disaster if he had a very sugary breakfast on Christmas morning so we try to keep it simple with toast/porridge.

You could buy a children's Christmas plate set? Matalan had some.

IamChipmunk · 12/11/2020 07:03

Aldi have christmas character egg cups in at the moment.

waltzingparrot · 12/11/2020 07:13

Cheese on toast but cut in to a circle and then decorated to look like a Christmas bauble or tree shape. Zig zag lines of tomato/bbq sauce, little circle decorations of olives, cucumber, red pepper and a sprinkling of edible glitter.

waltzingparrot · 12/11/2020 07:21

Celery and peanut butter?

Or a cheesy version of this with a suitable dip

Eggs Royale - poached eggs, smoked salmon, hollandaise, handful of chives. Breakfast of champions and lots of nutrients in the eggs and salmon (just pretend the hollandaise is fat-free 😁)
