Gifts that benefit charities?

I thought it would be nice to have a thread of gift ideas that benefit charities or NGOs.

The older I get the less inclined I am to spent money on mass produced gifts that quite often people don't need. A lot of my family are not of the same opinion so I figure if I have to buy them gifts then it can at least be things I feel good about spending my money on. Whilst I couldn't quite get away with donating a toilet or goat in their name, if I smile and be grateful for another Boots gift set bought in last year's sale (looking at you Aunt Liz!), then they can do the same for my carefully chosen socially and environmentally conscious gifts!

My suggestions are
Choose Love t-shirts, profit donated to charities supporting asylum seekers and refugees, seem to tick all the boxes for sustainable production and spreads the message
ASOS version
Designer specials
Pride version

These Fairtrade Tote bags from Refugee Women's Centre in France - they support women and child refugees in Calais and Dunkirk who are often without shelter and often treat terribly by the French authorities

Kushboo Soaps I met Sarwat at a Christmas fair last year, she was lovely and seems to have put a lot of work into making an ethical product. For every bar of soap sold another is donated to charity. And they smell amazing!

I'd like an alternative to Oxfam goats! Mary's Meals (www.marysmeals.org.uk/shop) used to let you buy one of their mugs as you donated so there was also a physical present as well. But I can't see that as an option.

This is a fantastic idea. I don’t have any suggestions but I’ll be reading with interest.

I always buy my mum and dad a weekly entry for each of them in a local (to them) charity raffle. I have done a hospice in the past, now Yorkshire Air Ambulance. They have won twice, once £750 and once £200.

My mum buys my daughter a Sponsor A Guide Dog puppy. DD gets generic training updates throughout the year.

That's a good idea about the air ambulance raffle- it seems loads of them do it.

Following as I'd love some ideas for family.

Stand4socks are good - you buy a pair and they donate a pair.

Contemplating some of the David Attenborough ones for my Dad!

onevillage.com/

A wide range of products, wooden toys, cushions, soaps, rugs, tableware ..

Not the most user friendly website, but really good quality products.
And
You can read up on how they source each product and the artisans they are supporting.

Have been buying from them for a long time now.

RSPB have some lovely things and most are pretty sustainably made too. I've bought all my wrapping and cards from there - made from recycled materials and recyclable afterwards.

Good Gifts has lots of ideas, and if you want a tangible item, look at their Peace Oil www.goodgifts.org/peace-oil
